Am 24. September 2018 bis 21. Oktober 2018 geht es für die ersten Ideen für das neue offizielle Musical "Michael Jackson" ins Musical Development Lab. Die ersten Schritte zur Umsetzung haben also begonnen. John Branca, the Estate of Michael Jackson, betonte am 29. August 2018 bei der MJ Birthday Diamond Celebration in Las Vegas, dass man sich nun deutlich auf die Michael Jackson Broadway Show konzentrieren wird, die 2020 uraufgeführt wird. Neu ist, dass vor der Erstaufführung am Broadway, einige Testaufführungen in #Chicago stattfinden werden, um die Reaktionen des Publikums zu testen.

Fassen wir zusammen: Vom 9. Juli 2018 bis 12. Juli 2018 fanden in den Pearl Studios (New York) unter der Leitung von Lynn Nottage und dem Choreographen Christopher Wheeldon die ersten Auditions statt. Gesucht wurden Künstler mit einer Musicalausbildung für das neue Michael Jackson Broadway Musical für diese Rollen: Michael Jackson in seinen 20ern bis 30ern, Rachel - 20 bis 30 Jahre - smart, herzlich und neugierig, Alejandro - 30 Jahre, ehrgeizig, überzeugend und verführerisch, Benji - 30 Jahre, witzig, ein Follower, Rob/Joseph Jackson - 30 bis 40 Jahre, eine starke und dominierende Persönlichkeit sowie ein junger Michael Jackson im Alter von 10 Jahren. Das neue Musical wird vom Leben und Werk Michael Jacksons erzählen. Produziert wird es vom Estate of Michael Jackson in Zusammenarbeit mit Columbia Live-Stage.

Inszeniert wird es von der Dramaturgin Lynn Nottager. Neben Michaels berühmten Songs werden auch seine legendären Moves in dem Musical zu sehen sein, in der Choreografie von Christopher Wheeldon. Die Geschichte umspannt Michaels Lebensabschnitte von den "The Jackson Five" bis zum Beginn seiner Solokarriere.

Na ja... Wir haben hier ein indirektes Zitat, das auch noch übersetzt ist. Und dann noch von den Übersetzungsexperten von BigFM. Ich könnte mir gut vorstellen, dass Branca gesagt hat, dass es keine weiteren Alben geben wird. Dafür aber Singles und so weiter. Was auch Sinn macht, weil Alben nicht mehr wirklich so wichtig sind wie früher.

Erinnert sich noch jemand, wie viele Alben Bestandteil des posthumen Plattenvertrags von Michael mit Sony waren?

TMZ korrigiert: keine neue Musik

Das Newsportal „TMZ“ hat ihre Meldung (wir berichteten am 7. Oktober) korrigiert: Es werde ihren Quellen zufolge keine neue Musik veröffentlicht, da der Tresor leer sei.

Dies entspricht kürzlichen Äusserungen von den Nachlassverwaltern, steht aber im Konflikt mit im Internet kursierenden Songs, die bisher nicht offiziell veröffentlicht wurden. Wir listen diese auf:

Diverse Fans machten zudem darauf aufmerksam, dass das „kürzlich gestaltete“ MJ-Logo, bereits seit 2009 verwendet wird. Gemäss „TMZ“ ist Michaels Merchandising-Firma „Triumph International“ aber erst jetzt daran, dieses exklusiv und für diverse Verwendungsmöglichkeiten abzusichern.

Betreffend neuen Songs hat sich Nachlassverwalter John Branca bereits mehrmals geäussert. Es werde in naher Zukunft wahrscheinlich keine bisher unveröffentlichte Songs veröffentlicht, so wie auf dem „Michael“ und „Xscape“ Album geschehen. (Ebenso auf „Bad 25“.) Dies, da die meisten hinterlassenen Songs unvollständig seien und sich nicht für eine Veröffentlichung eignen. Es werde aber darüber nachgedacht, allenfalls einige davon als posthume Duetts zu veröffentlichen.

Einige Fans spekulieren aber auch, dass das Ausbleiben posthumer Veröffentlichungen an Verhandlungen mit den Co-Komponisten und Co-Produzenten einiger Songs liegen könnte.

Wie auch immer. Im Internet kursieren einige vollständig eingesungene Songs, mit denen ein Album gefüllt werden könnte:

Aus den Thriller-Sessions:– Hot Street– Trouble(dieser Song wurde 1983 von Scott Baio auf dem Album „The Boys Are Out Tonight“ veröffentlicht. Ebenso von Musical Youth auf dem Album „Different Style“)– Nite Line(wurde als Nightline von den Pointer Sisters aufgenommen, war aber nur auf der original 1983 Pressung des – „Break Out“ Albums enthalten. Auch Randy Crawford veröffentlichte eine Version von Nightline

Weitere Songs wie „Janes is a Groupie“, „Ghost of Another Love“, „Throwin‘ Your Life Away“, „Deep In The Night“, „Family Thing“, „Faces“ (Nelson Mandela Tribute Song), oder „Men In Black“ sind leider unvollständig eingesungen respektive ohne fertiggestellte Lyrics.

Ich schätze die sind einfach der Ansicht, dass die noch unveröffentlichten kompletten Songs die noch im "Tresor" sind, einfach nicht so doll sind, dass man damit kommerziell noch was reißen könnte.
Was ja (wie ich finde) für das meiste Material was man so kennt auch irgendwie zutrifft. Natürlich wäre der nächste Fan-Shit-Storm vorprogrammiert, wenn die das so direkt sagen würden.

Hoffentlich gibts irgendwann mal ein MJ Collectors Label (wie es schon Fans vorgeschlagen haben - gibts wohl für Elvis?), wo man dann ohne großen Erfolgsdruck auch die übrig gebliebenen Songs noch unter die Hardcore Fans bringen kann.
Aber ich schätze in dieser Phase der Resteverwertung sind wir noch nicht ganz angelangt.

Das Problem ist, dass der Estate offenbar denkt, der beste Weg für die Releases ist, sie "fertigstellen" zu lassen und dann zu veröffentlichen. Als fertige richtige Lieder.
Dabei ist das Quatsch. Man muss sie als das veröffentlichen, was sie sind: unfertige Demos. Für Fans und Interessierte. Und für finanzielle Einnahmen muss man dann andere Projekte machen - was sie ja auch tun.

The Center has worked hard to help great apes in captivity by not only caring for those who have come to our sanctuary, but also by providing education to the public about their behavior and needs.
Their mission has been to provide permanent sanctuary care for those apes who could never be returned to the wild as well as those who accredited zoos would not accept because of their humanized backgrounds as pets or entertainers. To date, the Center has provided a home for over 60 great apes who have flourished at our sanctuary with good nutrition, excellent veterinary health care, tall habitats with space for normal movement, and most importantly…companionship with their own species.

Mijac counter-attacks on copyrights

Long story short…

Earlier this year, Larry Mestel, Founder and CEO of Primary Wave Publishing, confirmed his company had around $400 million to invest in music rights.

Primary Wave then acquired a controlling stake in Bob Marley’s publishing catalog. Mestel paid Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, $50 million. Bob Marley’s estate earned $23 million alone last year in sales of speakers, coffee, and branded cannabis.

Mestel’s company already owns the copyrights to songs from Kurt Cobain, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Hall & Oates, and Def Leppard, among others. Currently, Primary Wave owns the rights to over 15,000 songs.

Then, two months ago, Mestel made several strategic moves.

The publishing company signed singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins and acquired the catalogs of Count Basie. Primary Wave also entered into a long-term partnership with British producer/songwriter Pete Waterman.

Last month, Mestel acquired the rights to Tom Hamilton’s publishing catalog. This includes Aerosmith hits like ‘Sweet Emotion’ and ‘Janie’s Got A Gun.’

Earlier today, Mestel and Primary Wave confirmed they had acquired an interest in Sly & The Family Stone’s music catalog.

Under the deal, the publishing company will acquire Even St. Production’s music assets. This includes all royalty streams of song written by Sly Stone – real name Sylvester Stewart. He wrote every song in the band’s catalog.

Notable hits include ‘Everyday People,’ ‘Dance to the Music,’ and ‘Family Affair.’ Additional songs include ‘Stand!’, ‘Hot Fun In The Summertime,’ ‘Running Away,’ and ‘If You Want Me To Stay.’

After Mestel’s company confirmed the acquisition, the Michael Jackson Estate swiftly responded.

“The Sly & The Family Stone’s classic song copyrights are owned by Mijac Music, which is part of the Estate of Michael Jackson, and is administered by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, which handles all licensing requests.”

This forced Primary Wave to issue a clarification.

Mestel and his publishing company have acquired 100% of the passive writer income stream of Sly and the Family Stone.

Broadway MJ-Musical im Jahr 2020

MJ Estate bestätigt Musical für 2020 und auch den Zusammenhang mit dem neuen Banner in New York. Zudem wird morgen der Name des Musicals bekannt gegeben (ein Titel eines MJ-Songs) und eine Website zum Musical geht online.

Members of the media have already started speculating that it relates to the Broadway musical that was announced last year though there has been no official statement or response to inquiries. The same artwork is also appearing on the homepage of three Broadway-related websites today starting at 9 am ET – but with no additional information other than a link to a website landing page with the artwork and the opportunity to sign up for updates related to the artwork and the project it represents. You, the fans, are the first ones the Estate is telling that the speculation is correct – it is the key art for the Broadway musical coming in 2020! The Broadway show is yet another opportunity to reach new audiences and provide both them and Michael’s longtime fans with and an opportunity to experience his music in a unique and entertaining way.

Michael’s legacy is eternal, and no one can diminish it with lies, allegations or falsehoods as long as we don’t give the power to do so. The Brand new Michael Jackson musical titled “DON’T STOP ‘TIL YOU GET ENOUGH” will premiere in Chicago in the fall 2019!

The Estate has announced via social medias that the musical will includes over 25 Michael Jackson songs and will begin pre-Broadway performances at Chicago’s Nederlander Theatre on Oct. 29 and run through Dec. 1.

The show, scored with Michael Jackson’s music and likely to attract global attention, is produced by the Michael Jackson estate in collaboration with Columbia Live Stage. The book is by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage and the direction and original choreography is by Christopher Wheeldon, the former choreographer for the New York City Ballet who received critical acclaim on Broadway for his work on “An American in Paris.”

The Estate has called off the Chicago run of Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get

Enough – The Michael Jackson Musical. The 2019 run of the forthcoming musical was to act as a test ahead of the show’s Broadway debut in 2020. Currently it is still scheduled to open in New York in the Summer of 2020.

The Estate and the producers of the musical, Columbia Live Stage, are citing the cancellation is due to scheduling difficulties related to the recent strike by the actors’ union, Actors Equity. The strike, which was announced on January 7th, ended on February 8th.

Das MJ Estate und Columbia Live Stage haben angekündigt, das offizielle Musical “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” nicht wie geplant Ende 2019 erstmals in Chicago aufzuführen. Stattdessen werde die Weltpremiere im Sommer 2020 direkt am Broadway in New York gefeiert. Die spätere nationale Tour soll dann jedoch in Chicago starten.

Als Grund für die Verschiebung der Premiere werden Terminschwierigkeiten aufgrund des kürzlich erfolgten „Actors’ Equity“-Streik genannt.
