    IN THE SHADOWS OF LOVE
    M.J.
    IM SCHATTEN DER LIEBE

I first met Michael Jackson in the late 70s. Andy Warhol asked me to photograph a group of kids called the JACKSON FIVE for INTERVIEW magazine. They were staying with their tutor while on tour at a hotel in mid-town New York City. Their tutor was an elegant lady – almost like a character out of a George Cukor's film, The Women. When I started taking the photographs, Michael and his brothers were having a pillow fight, and she was trying to make them behave like gentlemen. Michael wasn't posing; he was only interested in reading the newspaper and looking for his reviews.

That was almost 30 years ago, and since then I've had the chance to know his charming sister Janet and shared good friends like Muhammad Ali's manager Bernie Yuman, the film director Brett Ratner and a lady who is beyond description, Elizabeth Taylor.

For years Michael and I have talked about taking photographs, but it never happened again until now, because our busy lives kept us at different ends of the globe. Luckily this time, we both found ourselves in New York City at the same time. I wanted to photograph Michael now instead of sending him a thank you note explaining all the joys I've had listening to him sing and watching him dance. Each of these times were marked as celebration in my crazy life: falling in love, driving my dream car, getting a new dog, photographing my family, or hanging out with a friend over a few beers. If I had to count how many times Michael's music has given a life to my photographs, that number would be in the thousands. Because of the music's rhythm and soul, I would end up taking so many photographs that I would run out of film and all my cameras would break down.

So Michael, accept my gratitude for you have a big place in a lot of people's hearts. As they say on the street "Michael's in the house and lets just do it!" – "Lets just get down and take some pictures and see if we land once again on the moon".

    JACKSON REGIMEN

    September 18, 2007

ELUSIVE Michael Jackson's wig takes longer to style than a supermodel's. A source told us Jackson, who's rumored to be in New York to shoot a cover spread for Italian Vogue, sat for three hours in the stylist's chair until they perfected his coif. The insider said Jackson has been holed up in a fancy Midtown hotel since Thursday afternoon "with an enormous entourage" and left only once, at 5 a.m., to take part in the 10-hour shoot for the fashion magazine. Reps for Jackson did not return calls.

    Michael Jackson's three-hour hair

    Sep 18 2007

(BANG) -Michael Jackson's hair reportedly takes three hours to style. The 'Thriller' singer is in New York to be photographed for the cover of Italian Vogue magazine and spent hours having his hair styled to perfection.
A source told the New York Post newspaper: "Jackson has been holed up in a fancy Midtown hotel since Thursday (13.09.07) afternoon with an enormous entourage.

"Since he arrived he has only left once, at 5am, to take part in the 10-hour shoot for Italian Vogue.

"Before he left he spent three hours in the hairdressers chair getting his hair done. That's longer than any supermodel took getting their hair done for New York Fashion Week."

Jackson has long been rumoured to wear a wig, with numerous photographs showing what appears to be a weave on his hairline.

The eccentric star famously burnt his hair after his locks accidentally caught fire while he was filming a Pepsi advert in 1984.

Jackson is believed to be appearing in a sprawling spread in the fashion bible, however, it is yet to be confirmed by Vogue.

Jackson clan meets 'Lion King' cast

    Wednesday September 19, 07:00 PM
    By ANI

New York, September 19 (ANI): Pop singer Michael Jackson's children were disguised in wigs and baseball caps when he took them to see 'The Long King' at the Minskoff Theatre on Sunday.

"All of a sudden, Michael Jackson appears with his three kids - who all had wigs and baseball caps on," the New York Post quoted Aspen magazine fashion editor Sue Hostetler as saying.

Hostetler was backstage at the time of Jackson's entry with his kids.

She revealed that the singer introduced his children as Paris, Prince and Blanket to the cast.

Jackson and his kids also took pictures with the cast, she said.

Hostetler also revealed that Jackson was clad in wacky pants, and that there were four bodyguards with the family.

"His face was totally white, he had his wig on, sunglasses and these absolutely wacky pants. It was surreal. There were four bodyguards," she said.

    What a thriller those pics

    from italian Vanity Fair (issue n. 40 - 11 October 2007)

2 trucks full of clothes. 178 pairs of shoes. 2 million dollars in jewels. Four Seasons Hotel, New York, September 14. Michae Jackson makes the scene. For the 25 years of Thiller, the most outsold album in history, L'Uomo Vogue decided to photograph the main character: a discussed celebrity and now «invisible», who we've seen in the last 15-20 years in stolen pictures, and that for long time hasn't agreed to pose. But for L'Uomo Vogue, and for a photographer like Bruce Weber; Michael makes an exception. Under the hypnotized eyes of fashion editor Rushka Bergman, the popstar chooses classic style: black jackets and white shirts. Meanwhile on the set, to heat up the atmosphere, someone puts on just the music from Thriller, and the troupe start to dance. MJ enters and everyone stop, in silence. But he [Michael] asks to pump up the volume, starts to move and he doesn't stop, while the camera continues to take pictures. You'll find the outcome, of which you can see a sample, in the October issue of L'Uomo Vogue. But many fans, all over the world, have already had a glance to it. Because a «mole» published some shots on the internet, who knows where they were stolen from, and the very-clicked gossip website Perez-Hilton shared them, spreading the sensational exclusive all over the web.
