Hier erst einmal die letzten beiden Quellen (u.a. Rolling Stone Magazine), im Verlauf werde ich dann nochmal alle anderen vorherigen Gerüchte hierzu zusammentragen in diesem Thema:

Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson?

The Recording Academy has announced that Beyonce (pictured), the Foo Fighters, and Carrie Underwood are all slated as headline performers for the 50th anniversary Grammy Awards celebration February 10, 2008. Mary J. Blige and living legend Aretha Franklin will take part in a gospel extravaganza, and the show will also feature Rihanna in a special segment with the reunited Time. These are the officially announced performances, but there are plenty of other rumors floating around about possible additional performers.

The most significant of these rumors is that Michael Jackson will take part in the Grammy celebration and possibly even perform. His 25th anniversary special edition of Thriller is scheduled to hit stores 2 days after the Grammys on February 12, 2008. A Michael Jackson performance would be timely. Los Angeles Times reporter Tom O'Neill is keeping an eye on the story as well.
The 2008 Grammy Awards will take place at L.A.'s Staples Center February 10, 2008 and will be broadcast on CBS television 8-11:30 p.m. ET.

However, I heard something about this about a month ago, and it did not come from her. I can't say much more, but according to my source there has been talks at least about an appearance.

There talks and discussions to do some kind of performance with Michael at the Grammy's of 2008. Parties involved not yet agreed, but they are in talks. I think it would be good to do some shows to create the hype and to show the new generation who he is. I see people dancing on Rihanna's last song (at the end the WBSS part) "Don't stop the Music" and they love it. Do you think the new generation knows it's from Michael Jackson? But of course it's up to Michael Jackson to do it.

  • Report: Jackson will be back at the Grammys

    Jan 25, 2008 10:41:41 AM

Twenty-five years after setting an awards record for the best-selling album in music history, Jackson will return to the Grammys to tout the re-release of 'Thriller' says a Sony/BMG memo.

"I'm 90 percent sure that Michael Jackson will make an appearance at the Grammys," my pal Diane Dimond told me today. The renowned investigative reporter sure knows her stuff about Jackson, having specialized in tracking his scandal-plagued career, summing it all up in her recent book "Be Careful Who You Love". "I've heard that he's going to be there, but I'm not sure if he's going to perform or just make an appearance" at the awards gala at L.A.'s Staples Center on Feb. 10, she adds.

At her blog DianeDimond.net , she explains, "Seems the brain trust at Sony-BMG is pulling out all the stops to help its one time mega-star re-enter the pop music scene. The occasion is the 25th anniversary of Jackson’s biggest album ever — one of the music world’s most lucrative successes ever — 'Thriller.'"

"Thriller," by the way, holds the record for winning the most Grammys in a single year (8 in 1983). Jackson shared in seven of those victories for himself. That same year, he won an additional trophy along with Quincy Jones for best children's recording ("E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial"), which brought his personal tally to 8, which set a new record for individual artists in a single year. Both records were tied by Santana and its "Supernatural" CD in 1999.

I've contacted NARAS for a response to this report, but have not yet heard back.

Although I didn't bother posting because I wasn't 100% convinced of its authenticity, Diane Dimond posted this same information about the tracks and promotional plans several days ago. I guess she also got the memo from a radio station...

For what it's worth, and since most everything else has been confirmed by a separate source, here are a few other details that DD posted, supposedly from these Sony-BMG memos:

  • JACKSON AD BLITZ - 'THRILLER' SETFOR SUPER BOWL

    By DIANE DIMOND
    January 27, 2008

Michael Jackson wants to kick off a "Thriller" comeback on the Super Bowl stage, The Post has learned.

As part of a marketing plan for the 25th anniversary of the hit Michael Jackson album, a TV spot for SoBe Life Water, a vitamin-enhanced beverage from PepsiCo, will air during the big game next Sunday with a "Thriller" theme, according to documents.

An internal memo from Jackson's former label Sony, written by marketing director Andrew Feigenbaum, prominently mentions the TV spot as "confirmed."

PepsiCo has refused to acknowledge collaborating with The Gloved One on the super-secret project. There was no immediate comment from a Jackson spokeswoman.

The week of Feb. 8 will deliver what the internal memo describes as a "major TV, radio, online and outdoor advertising campaign."

It's likely the covers of the anniversary edition of the album - called "Thriller 25" - which feature photographs of a much younger Jackson with a much darker complexion and a different facial structure, will be seen on billboards around the country.

The official Jackson Web site has been completely redone to resemble a one-stop shop for all things Jackson. Links to the social-networking Web sites MySpace and Facebook are new. Lucrative ringtones have been created for all of the songs from the original album as well as for all the remixes and previously unreleased tracks.

There are also plans under way for Jackson to appear at the Grammy Awards on Feb.10 with young hip-hop artists Fergie, will.i.am and Akon, who also accompany him on remixed or new versions of "Thriller" album tracks.

Blockbuster "Beat It" will now feature Fergie, while Akon joins "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" and will.i.am provides vocals for "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" and "The Girl is Mine."

Meanwhile, the classic "The Girl is Mine," which featured Paul McCartney, has been completely re-recorded, erasing all traces of the former Beatle.

Next month's Black Entertainment Television Honors program is set to include a tribute to Jackson.

Jackson is scheduled to appear at both events, but not perform.

Jackson has spent the last year bumming around Las Vegas after a year and a half of globetrotting - including stays in Europe and the Middle East, sleeping on the couches of rich pals.

While no specific figures were mentioned, it's clear that the "Thriller" campaign is a multimillion-dollar effort and that the Sony-designed p.r. blitz could be a major boost to Jackson's flagging career. Ironically, the record company dumped the star in 2006.

    * Re-mixed songs on "Thriller 25" with vocals by hip-hop artists Fergie, Akon and will.i.am

    * New track based on "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin"

    * Erased any trace of Paul McCartney vocals on "The Girl Is Mine"

    * Album will include never-released 1982 tune, "For All Time"

    * Grammy Awards appearance scheduled

    * BET will host special honoring him

    * Launching major TV, radio, online and outdoor ad campaign around Feb. 8

  • Jackson eyeing Super Bowl comeback

    Published: Jan. 27, 2008 at 12:26 PM
    NEW YORK, Jan. 27 (UPI)

This year's Super Bowl may serve as a launch pad for a comeback campaign by fading U.S. pop music icon Michael Jackson, it was reported Sunday.

The New York Post reported Sunday that as part of a rumored comeback attempt by Jackson and to honor the 25th anniversary of the singer's hit album "Thriller," SoBe Life Water will air an advertisement modeled after the famed album during the Super Bowl.

While PepsiCo has not confirmed Jackson's involvement in the advertising campaign for the company's vitamin-enhanced beverage, an internal music from Sony Music said the TV spot next Sunday has been "confirmed."

The Post said that memo also referred to a "major TV, radio, online and outdoor advertising campaign" during the week of Feb. 8 that likely will be coordinated with the launch of Jackson's "Thriller 25" album.

Jackson's comeback also may include an appearance at the annual Grammy Awards Feb. 10, where the music star is expected to perform new or remixed versions of "Thriller" tracks.
