Michael’s Sons and Those February Birthdates!
Posted by: Raven on: February 21 2013
Michael carried on a tradition that was started by his own parents. Out of nine children (ten if we count Brandon) four of them share May birthdays. In fact, all three of Michael’s sisters-Rebbie, LaToya, and Janet-have May birthdays. As if that wasn’t enough, Rebbie and LaToya, in fact, share the same birthdate of May 29th! Good thing the Jacksons were practicing Jehovah’s Witnesseses, or else all of those May birthdays would have certainly gotten quite expensive!
Of course, in a family as large as the Jacksons, it might be expected that at least some of the children would share the same birth month. But with such a high percentage of May births, it seems obvious that September must have been a busy time on Joe and Katherine’s…um, calendar.
I did not come from a large family, yet myself and both of my sisters all shared December birthdates, leading us to speculate what the heck was going on with our parents every March! (My mother did not break this trend until she remarried, at which time she finally had two children born in August and September, respectively-but even then, my half sister’s and half brother’s birthdays ended up being only a week apart, from August 28th to September 4th! So, in essence, my mother barely avoided yet another month of multiple birthdays!).
So what was this deal with Michael and all of his sons being born in February? Was he thinking along about every May (while Rebbie, Jackie, LaToya and Janet each celebrated in their own way) gee, I’d really like to have a son for Valentine’s Day?
All joking aside, it probably made for some fun times in the Jackson house as both boys eagerly awaited every February to roll around, because for sure, a birthday celebration in Michael Jackson’s house was bound to be something special!
Perhaps it worked out just as well that both boys get to share this special time of year. Turning another year older, I am sure, must be bittersweet these days, for every February that now passes for Prince and Blanket is another year that they have grown older without their father to celebrate with them. Prince is now 16, a fully fledged teenager, and Blanket has grown comfortably-and lankily-into his double digit years. Today, he turns eleven.
And what do you guys think about the irony of Prince Michael Jackson having now become the media? (And I noticed he is now being referred to, no longer simply as Prince, but as Prince Michael! Hmm. What is up with that?). Anyway, he seems to be doing a knockout job with his new ET gig! But the promotions for this gig seem to hammer home the fact that, no matter what these kids do, it’s going to be hard for them to crawl out from under the huge shadow of their father’s legacy to create their own identities. I think this is especially going to be true with any show business endeavors they undertake.
