A Review and More of MJ One at the Mandalay Bay

This weekend, I was able to see the first dress rehearsal of Cirque du Soleil’s MJ One at the Mandalay Bay, along with several other fan community leaders, thanks to the MJ Estate. Not only did we get to see the show before anyone else, but we were treated to several other surprises that truly made for an amazing and eye opening weekend.

Before I get to the show and the spoilers (which I will give fair warning about, fear not), I will say that Cirque du Soleil and the MJ Estate have achieved something truly amazing with this one. Throughout this entire weekend, the love, respect, and admiration that they feel towards Michael (and the fans) was obvious. I can’t imagine how hard this entire team worked to make this happen in such a short amount of time, but I deeply admire and appreciate them all the more for it.

We were flown from all over the world to Las Vegas and put up at The Mandalay Bay, which is by far the nicest hotel I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. (To be fair, it is probably the ONLY nice hotel I have ever had thee pleasure of staying in.) The view from my room was amazing. See for yourself.

The hotel was massive. I literally did not leave it once between Friday morning and Sunday afternoon, and I never even saw the whole thing. It was also gorgeous with some amazing restaurants and shops,. (I got a really great gift for our wonderful GlitterySocks, but I’ll let her tell you about that when she gets it.) And as some of us on PosMike were wondering, yes, it is connected to the Luxor. The MJ slot machine may have turned me into a gambling addict. I won enough to break even, which I considered a huge success.

We all got together for an amazing seafood lunch on Saturday. The highlight of that lunch was not the amazing food, however, but getting to personally meet John Branca, Jamie King, and Welby Atidor. All were incredibly kind, gracious, and unbelievably passionate and enthusiastic about this project. You could feel the MJ love and admiration throughout the room. On that note, you could feel it all over the hotel. The MJ Slots were always occupied and there was ALWAYS somebody buying MJ One tickets in the box office.

Later that afternoon, we were given a tour of the theatre, including backstage. We saw first hand how they do this stuff, and I still can’t even fathom it. We couldn’t take pictures inside the theatre, but we could take pictures inside the lobby!
Später am Nachmittag hatte wir eine Führung durch das Theater, inklusive Backstage. . Wir sahen aus erster Hand, wie sie diese Dinge tun, und ich kann es immer noch nicht ergründen. Wir konnten keine Bilder im Theater machen, aber wir konnten Bilder in der Lobby nehmen!

Michael Jackson One’ ticket sales exceed expectations at Mandalay Bay

Tickets for “Michael Jackson One” at Mandalay Bay are moving so well that Cirque du Soleil execs have decided to advance the on-sale date for the balance of the year — even before its official gala opening June 29. Traditionally, the summer box office slows, but not at “MJ1.”

“We’re pretty well sold out with the current block we put on sale to Aug. 31. The demand is incredible. Our best-ever opening sale, and people are here nightly from all over the world. For the premiere, we will officially announce ticket sales through to Dec. 31,” I was reliably told. “The demand is there, and it will help people plan their travel and hotel plans further out.”

Even more extraordinary is that “MJ1” while in previews has been just one show a night. With the spectacular premiere and $1 million-plus Mandalay Bay Beach after-party, the production will start a two-shows-a-night schedule — 7 and 10 p.m., and the ticket demand still exceeds the seating. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013...#ixzz2VTaglA9O

Der Ticketverkauf für die Show übertrifft die Erwartungen. Die Shows bis Ende August sind ausverkauft. Der beste Eröffnungsverkauf den es bislang gab. Die Leute sind jede Nacht aus der ganzen Welt da. Vor der Permiere soll der Ticketverkauf bis Ende Dezember bekanntgegeben werden.
Noch außergewöhnlicher ist, dass MJ1 in den Previews als 1 Show/Nacht angekündigt wurde. Mit der Premiere wird nun eine Terminierung mit 2 Shows pro Nacht starten 7 und 10 p.m. und das Ticketverlangen übertrifft immer noch die Platzzahlen.

Artist in ‘Michael Jackson One’ injured after fall to the stage

The cast members in Cirque du Soleil shows perform such otherworldly, superhuman feats of artistry, you sometime forget that these people are, well, people.
Audience members were reminded of the real, human risk in these unreal shows Wednesday night when a performer in “Michael Jackson One” at Mandalay Bay fell to the stage and was taken away in a wheelchair.
Cirque is declining to release the name of the performer, saying they are “not allowed by law” to identify artists injured while on the job. But officials did confirm reports from audience members that an aerial artist in the “Stranger in Moscow” number slipped free of the “slack rope” he uses in the acrobatic act high above his fellow performers and dropped to the stage.
He missed the spongy mat placed below the number and hit headfirst on the hardened stage.
The house lights came up immediately as the performer was prone on the stage, not moving, for several minutes. To allay confusion from the audience, an announcement was made that there would be a delay in the production while the artist was evaluated.
Stagehands surrounded the performer, a gurney and a wheelchair were brought to the stage, and the artist was taken away in the wheelchair. He was conscious, and the show resumed after the incident.
Today, a Cirque spokeswoman said the performer is expected to return to the performance, and the act is still in the show. In an email response regarding he incident, she said: “All the safety procedures were taken in support of the artist to ensure that he was quickly evaluated and taken care of. He was conscious and wheel-chaired off-stage. He was assessed by our medical personnel and was sent to a hospital for evaluation. He is now back home and resting and is suffering from a mild concussion. We are all relieved.”
The incident occurred during one of the final preview shows for the highly anticipated production. The production that replaced “Disney’s The Lion King” at Mandalay Bay Theater celebrates it world premiere Saturday night.

Die Lichter gingen unverzüglich an, als der Künstler auf der Bühne lag und sich für mehrere Minuten nicht bewegte. Um das Publikum zu beruhigen, wurde eine Ankündigung gemacht, dass es eine Verzögerung bei der Aufführung gäbe, während der Künstler untersucht wurde.

Bühnenmitarbeiter standen um den Künstler herum, eine Krankentrage und ein Rollstuhl wurden zur Bühne gebracht, und der Künstler wurde im Rollstuhl weggebracht. Er war bei Bewusstsein und die Vorstellung ging nach dem Zwischenfall weiter.

Heute sagte eine Sprecherin des Cirque, dass davon ausgegangen wird, dass der Künstler zur Aufführung zurückkehren kann, und der Act immer noch in der Show sei. Der Vorfall ereignete sich während einer der letzten Probeaufführungen für die hoch erwartete Aufführung. Die Aufführung, die “Disney’s The Lion King” im Mandalay Bay Theater ersetzt, feiert ihre Weltpremiere am Samstagabend.
