Remix Frage/Hilfe-wie macht Ihr einen Chor/Remix help -how do you make a chorus?

  • when your using an acapella, how do you get it to sound like a chorus? How could you take the billie jean acapella and make it sound the way the chorus does on the song? or for Who Is It? How can you make it sound like a chorus? In the song the chorus sounds a lot more like a softer more feminine voice, but on the acapella it doesn't sound like that at all.

And I don't just mean hitting the chorus, and morph button because it doesn't sound at all like a chorus.

  • I know what you mean. Back in the day when I sometimes sang with my family, we used a technical component that we hooked up to my dad's synthesizer and the amp. It was called a "Vocalist". Basically it took the sound (the voice) you sang into it, and multiplied it in a certain fashion.
The way that harmony sounded depended on two things:
    1. The chord that the "Vocalist" was supposed to harmonize to. So, if you play a C major on the synth and sing an E - then you play an A minor on the keyboard, the harmony the "Vocalist" gives your voice changes accordingly.
    2. You could completely influence the chord-maps by programming the thing. But those things usually come with preset settings which will do fine for most occasions.

I'm sure there must be an equivalent of this in the form of a program. But I'm afraid I don't know what it's called.
Basically it's just a matter of transposing the voice a little and then adding it on top of the original one. But it gets a little complicated if you don't know about chords and harmonies etc. That's why using such a program may be advisable if you're not a pro musician (or too lazy to do it manually :lol).

  • I don't know about chords and harmonies. I can't even read music.

  • maybe you can help me.

I have exp stuido auditor, and with that I can adjust the pitch. I also have music morpher gold, the free version, and with that I can adjust the root formant. Any suggestions for how I should alter the pitch and sound and layer them on top of each other without making it sound like it's electronic or something.

  • Well it's hard to say.
You'd have about 2/3 different pitches. The thing is that in order to do it, you need to know the key Michael is singing in and the key that you want the other 2 voices to sing in.

If you can upload the program you use to rapidshare or yousendit, I'll have a look at it and see what I see.

  • cool thanks.

I have the free version of exp studio editor, which can be downloaded it at this link for free. With this program you can mix paste layers of sound on top of each other too.

And I have the free version of AV music morpher which can be downloaded here for free.
It's the one at the bottom.

I've been experimenting but I just can't get the chorus on Who Is It to sound like it does in the song. It always comes out sounding either computerized or like he's singing in a trash can or something.

  • Woah you're right, it does sound robotic... Hm, I've never actually tried to do this sort of thing manually.
I have Adobe Audition 2, maybe I can do it with that. If I can, I'll let you know.
