Unreleased Tracks & Co. / Der Werk-Katalog [zukünftiger Inhalt]

(DEUTSCH) Hallo da drüben, du betrachtest in diesem Moment

    das bestimmt geheimnisvollste Thema über
die Musik des KING OF POP, MICHAEL JACKSON:
    Seine UNVERÖFFENTLICHTEN Stücke
    (auch die Stücke, die erst
    SPÄTER VERÖFFENTLICHT wurden)
    und Stücke, die auf keinem
    seiner Alben zu finden sind

inklusive THE JACKSON 5 / THE JACKSONS

(ENGLISH) Hi there, you're watching right now

the definitely most mysterious topic about
the music of the KING OF POP, MICHAEL JACKSON:
    His UNRELEASED tracks
    (also those tracks which
    were NOT RELEASED UNTIL LATER)
and tracks which cannot be found
    on any of his albums

including THE JACKSON 5 / THE JACKSONS

        (unterschiedlich farbliche Kennzeichnung)
      • Veröffentlichungen
      • Quellenangabe

    (ENGLISH) Annotations regarding the list:
Of course, faults cannot be foreclosed. In particular the sources are varying.
Those tracks which really exist are marked in bold.
It is practically impossible to ever complete this list.
You can gladly copy and spread around this list. It has been created for everyone.
(An indication of source with link would be very nice, of course.)
For that purpose the list is being administered in the English language.

The list is arranged in the following way:

    • chronological sorting of tracks by year in which the track
has been completed (or has been edited in a final step), as far as known
    • numeric-alphabetical sorting of tracks within a year
    • indication of (if known):

      • name of the track (including specification of version, e.g. "Early Demo")
      • year(s) --> indicates when the text and/or the music was written/composed
      • songwriter(s), composer(s)
      • interpret(s)
      • additional background info, e.g. how the track was developed
        (differential color-coded marking)
      • releases
      • list of sources

(DEUTSCH) Anmerkung zur kontinuierlichen Verbesserung der Liste:
Jedwede Art von Rückmeldung (konstruktive Kritik, Verbesserungsvorschläge,
Korrekturen usw.) ist jederzeit erwünscht und hilfreich.
(ENGLISH) Note about the continuous improvement of the list:
Any kind of feedback (constructive criticism, improvement suggestions,
amendments etc.) is desired and helpful at any time.

    • This Is It (1980) (Michael Jackson, Paul Anka)
      Michael Jackson
POSTHUMOUSLY released version: Michael Jackson [lead] feat. The Jacksons [BG vocals]
According to Paul Anka, he co-wrote the song and worked on it with Michael in 1983,
however it's more likely that he's re-written parts of the song in that year, as the song
had definitely been created in 1980 (see US Copyright Office registration) - obviously
without Paul Anka. However a re-written version was later recorded and released by
the band Safire in 1991 under a different name, "I Never Heard".
Statements by representatives of Sony Music which claimed that the song would have
been re-named from "I Never Heard" to "This Is It" contradict the fact that the song
was registered with the title "This Is It" in 1984 under the US Copyright Office.

    • Behind The Mask (1979-1981) (Chris Mosdell, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Michael Jackson)
      Michael Jackson
Original Instrumental Version by Yellow Magic Orchestra released in 1979 on their
album SOLID STATE SURVIVOR which drew Quincy Jones' attention. Michael recorded
his own version for the album THRILLER (1982), adding some extra lyrics and harmonies.
Due to legal battles concerning the song's credits Michael couldn't release it at that time.
In December 2010 a reworked version produced by John McClain was released posthumously on
MICHAEL, the first compilation of previously unreleased material containing 10 reworked tracks.
This new version contains live snippets of the famous 1992 concert at Bucharest from the
Dangerous World Tour, new production plus additional vocals supplied by Shanice Wilson.

First considered to be included on the Queen album HOT SPACE (1982), and later on its
follow-up THE WORKS (1984), but both did not happen. In 1983 Michael Jackson then
sung the song and Freddie Mercury played the piano and this version was scheduled for
the album VICTORY (1984) by The Jacksons. As this was also dropped, Freddie went on
recording his own version and released it later. It is not assured if Michael Jackson and
Freddie ever sung the song together, a version that was leaked over the internet simply
merged Michael's and Freddie's voices from two totally different recordings: one being
the version Michael sung in 1983 and supported by Freddie on the piano, and another one
being Freddie's version he recorded later without any participation by Michael. Eventually
this song and also State Of Shock - Demo and Victory were supposed to be given for free

only but Sony Music instead praised them plus 8 remixes as a new album.

Developed after Michael was asked to write the theme to Addams Family
      Values (1993)
which he finally declined. Michael came up with the idea to
create his own spine-chiller. Its initial name was IS IT SCARY and Michael
asked Stephen King to help him writing the story. After the child molestation
accusations had passed it turned out to become a fourty minutes lasting
mini-movie. Originally it only consisted of its title track and some harmonic
melodies, but Michael later wrote Ghosts as the new main theme and also
included the song 2 Bad (1995) from his album HISTORY - PAST, PRESENT
      AND FUTURE - BOOK I (1995)

    • Blue Gangsta (1998) (Elliot "Dr. Freeze" Straite, Michael Jackson)
      Alternative title: Blue Gangster
      Michael Jackson
One of three known songs Michael did with "Dr. Freeze" (=Elliot Straite) for the album INVINCIBLE.
The others are A Place With No Name and Break Of Dawn (the latter having made the final cut).
The song became first famous when a relatively unknown rapper nicknamed Tempamental put a version
by him and the also relatively unknown DJ Scoob Doo online at his mySpace profile. This version was
simply called Gangsta and is sth like a remix of the original song by Michael Jackson. Gangsta seems to
have been an illegal tryout that doesn't have the qualities of a real remix as it was full of DJ shouts and
only served as a way to get some publicity through the internet. It quickly disappeared from the said
mySpace profile and another remix - this time a real one - suddenly appeared on the mySpace profile
of Pras (from The Fugees). It's titled No Friend Of Mine and it could qualify as an official remix.
It's completed and no legal actions have been taken to remove it from Pras' mySpace profile.
For a long time many fans have thought that these tracks would have been collaborations that
Michael initiated but his PR department dismissed this wrong assumption. It has taken almost
4 years until Michael's fans could hear the original full version that Michael recorded back in 1998.

This remix was to be released on a NBA compilation album scheduled for the end of 1997
and was also going to be featured in commercials for NBA's "I Love This Game" campaign.
Michael Jackson was brought on this project by Shaquille O'Neal who has previously
guest-starred on the track "2 Bad" on the album HISTORY - PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
      - BOOK I (1995)
      .
The entire project was finally shelved due to the player iniated strike against the league
      that year.

      • (Master Mix - 5:02, and Street Mix - 5:14) Ice Cube: "We Be Ballin' "
(Single Test Pressing CD, A&M Post production Acetate CD, 1998)
The "Master Mix" on this acetate abruptly ends at 4:47 and is silent for the remaining
playtime. However a proceeding beat can be faintly detected in the background for a
few seconds. This curiosity is based on the fact that production on the song was rushed
and not finished for this master.

      • (Master Mix - 5:07) Ice Cube: "We Be Clubbin' "
        (Single, Test Pressing CD, 1998)

      <<<ATTENTION - THE FAKES>>>

      • Fan-made FAKE version (4:50 /or 5:14 since April 2008)
        SPREAD in mid 2005
This FAKE DOES NOT(!) feature Ice Cube at all. It mixed the 2003 remake with
JMC Mob, Raz-B & Co. with one of actually three slightly different choruses by MJ plus
        one verse by Shaquille O'Neal.
NOTE: Around APRIL 2008 someone extended this FAKE version once again (having a
playtime of 5:14 now) in some attempt to make it look like it would be the "Street Mix"
which IS NOT TRUE(!) as the real version is 1) professionally mastered and 2) sounds
        extremely different.
This new FAKE had a bit better sound quality as it did not have dropouts any longer.

      <<<THE REAL VERSIONS>>>

      • Master Mix (5:07)
        Two leaks of this:

        • (5:02, the song abruptly ends at 4:46 and the remaining playtime is silent)
          LEAKED on June 21st, 2008 by well-known
          scammer PATRICK ANTHONY LIPMAN
          (known by various nicknames: e.g. mickyj007, mjtkop07, DJP777, BeatzMasterJ, Invincible91)
that has ripped off many MJ collectors.
          Original source: Test Pressing CD
        • (5:07, the song is complete and has a fade out)
          LEAKED on July 12th 2008 by well-known
          scammer PATRICK ANTHONY LIPMAN
          (known by various nicknames: e.g. mickyj007, mjtkop07, DJP777, BeatzMasterJ, Invincible91)

          Original source: Test Pressing CD

Michael Jackson sings the chorus three times and each time slightly different. The last
chorus is a longer one with more vocals.
Furthermore the "Master Mix" also includes all vocals by Ice Cube and Shaquille O'Neal,
features professional production and mastering and has superb sound quality.

      • Street Mix (5:14)
        LEAKED on June 21st, 2008 by well-known
        scammer PATRICK ANTHONY LIPMAN
        (known by various nicknames: e.g. mickyj007, mjtkop07, DJP777, BeatzMasterJ, Invincible91)
that has ripped off many MJ collectors.

The "Street Mix" gives the song a more edgy and urban feel. It's very different in
production, style when compared to the "Master Mix" and turns the end of the song
into an acappella by Ice Cube. It features all the vocals from the "Master Mix".

      • Work In Progress (5:33)
LEAKED on April 30th, 2009 by
file-sharer "Dangerous Incorporated" who used another nickname for this purpose.
This version was an early work on the remix with Shaq & Mike. It uses much musical
elements from the 1997 original We Be Clubbin' and Mike sings the chorus only two
times here (the 2nd chorus being the longer one). The track contains some vocals
that were later dropped from the final version (some others are missing here) and
        ends with an instrumental passage.

      Michael Jackson featuring Lenny Kravitz
Outtake of the album INVINCIBLE (2001)
All instruments are played by Lenny Kravitz who is also acting as main producer.
As the song didn't make it onto Michael's album, Lenny Kravitz has worked on a
new version in 2003/2004, re-titled Storm, which was released in 2004 on his
album BAPTISM featuring Jay-Z. The first ever snippet (ca. 1:30) of the original
song with Michael Jackson has been leaked on 2nd January 2010.
In December 2010 Lenny Kravitz released a reworked version on MICHAEL,
the first posthumous compilation of previously unreleased material containing
10 reworked tracks. This new version includes some changes concerning the
guitar arrangements and is more focusing on the drums. Around the release of
MICHAEL Sony mistakenly issued wrong press information which led to
some journalists continously stating the song would have been leaked in 2008.

Now this indicates that the contest is needless because the lyrics existed already.

3LW, Aaron Carter, Anastacia, Beyoncé Knowles, Billy Gilman, Brian
McKnight, Bryton, Carlos Santana, Céline Dion, Gloria Estefan, Hanson,

'N Sync, Nick Carter, Reba McEntire, Ricky Martin, Shakira, Shawn
Stockman, Thalía, Usher, Tom Petty, Ziggy Marley

The song shares its name with two all star charity concerts "Michael
Jackson & Friends - What More Can I Give" which both took place in
June 1999 in Seoul, South Korea, and in Munich, Germany. The song
was scheduled to premiere at those concerts (possibly as a duet
with Luciano Pavarotti), but shelved. The song was then intended
to be released on the album INVINCIBLE (2001), but shelved once
again. Due to the terrorists attack on September 9, 2001, Michael
originated an all star charity campaign to support the victims and
their families by donating all revenues of his planned single. The
recording was completed on October 19, 2001. At Michael Jackson's
concert "United We Stand - What More Can I Give" at Washington,
D.C.'s RFK Stadium on 21th October 2001 the song was ultimately
performed by most of the involved artists. This performance in front
of 46,000 people was aired (in an edited version) on ABC on November
1, 2001. Sony Music canceled a possible single release in late 2001
without giving any reason for this decision but hampering Michael
Jackson's and some of the involved artists' attempt to distribute the
song. Footage of the recording sessions was first shown on German
TV channel ARD as Michael Jackson was presented with the Bambi
Award as Pop Artist Of The Millennium in November 2002 in Berlin,
Germany. It was once again shown at the Radio Music Awards in
October 2003. On October 27th, 2003, an edited version (3:36) was
finally released via the following two (now defunct) websites:

It could be bought as a pay download (2,- $) for a very short time, starting
on October 27th, 2003, whose revenues were used to support several charity
organisations. A Spanish version titled Todo Para Ti was also recorded
      and finished in April 2002.

    • Wonderful World Of Candy (2003) (Michael Jackson)
      Michael Jackson & Nisha Kataria
      Produced by Michael Jackson
Originally intended for a children charity project, but due to
the late 2003 child molestation accusations and the resulting arrest
on the 18th November of that year, the track has been dropped.
Michael Jackson has been working throughout 2003 on a brand-new
studio album (initially intended for release sometime in 2004).
At that time (2003), Dieter Wiesner was Michael Jackson's manager
and he introduced young music artist Nisha Kataria, his newest protégé,
to Michael. Michael Jackson invited Nisha onto his Neverland Valley
Ranch to record with her some tracks in his private recording studio
(contrary to claims by some individuals, Michael Jackson had such a
place at his home). She stayed there for about six weeks and Michael
wrote this song and they both recorded it as a duet. After Michael's
dramatic moral conduct in November 2003, all plans have been put
      on hiatus since.
At the present moment (April 2010) it is still unknown if and when
      the track will be used.

    We Be Ballin'

confusion about real and fake versions

On the occasion of still ongoing confusion about the authenticity of several versions of "We Be Ballin' ", here is an overview of all 100% official studio versions:

    • Master Mix (5:07)

      Two leaks of this:

      • (5:02, the song abruptly ends at 4:46 and the remaining playtime is silent)
LEAKED on June 21st, 2008 (MP3 "mickyj007" has acquired by ripping off another collector)
      • (5:07, the song is complete and has a fade out)
LEAKED on July 12th, 2008 (MP3 "mickyj007" has acquired by ripping off another collector)

Michael Jackson sings the chorus three times and each time slightly different. The last
chorus is a longer one with more vocals.
Furthermore the "Master Mix" also includes all vocals by Ice Cube and Shaquille O'Neal,
features professional production and mastering and has superb sound quality.

How can I be sure that I'm listening to the "Master Mix"?

      • playtime is 5:08 min (no silence)
(note: 1 leaked version is incomplete and thus abruptly ends at 4:46)

      • there's no spoken/muffled intro

      • the background music features a heavy bass routine and during Michael Jackson's choruses the music is becoming very soft (horns)

      • singers are:

        • Ice Cube (lead vocals)
        • Shaquille O'Neal (background vocals + verses)
        • Michael Jackson (chorus 3x)

      • there are 3 choruses sung by Michael Jackson, the last one features more vocals
order of chorus appearances by Michael Jackson:

        • 1) 1:01 - 1:20 (20 secs)
        • 2) 2:11 - 2:30 (20 secs)
        • 3) 3:21 - 4:00 (40 secs)

      • the song ends with a fade out (4:46 - 5:08)

      • best sound quality available: 320kbps MP3 (WAVE files are FAKE)

    • Street Mix (5:14)

LEAKED on June 21st, 2008 (MP3 "mickyj007" has acquired by ripping off another collector)
The "Street Mix" gives the song a more edgy and urban feel. It's very different in
production, style when compared to the "Master Mix" and turns the end of the song
into an acappella by Ice Cube. It features all the vocals from the "Master Mix".

How can I be sure that I'm listening to the "Street Mix"?

      • playtime is 5:15 min (song ends at 5:12, 3 secs silence)

      • there's no spoken/muffled intro

      • the background music features a humming voice and is very edgy, in constant intervals there's a short leap routine

      • singers are:

        • Ice Cube (lead vocals)
        • Shaquille O'Neal (background vocals + verses)
        • Michael Jackson (chorus 3x)

      • there are 3 choruses sung by Michael Jackson, the last one features more vocals
order of chorus appearances by Michael Jackson:

        • 1) 0:43 - 1:02 (20 secs)
        • 2) 1:53 - 2:12 (20 secs)
        • 3) 3:03 - 3:42 (40 secs)

      • the song ends with a short a cappella by Ice Cube (5:03 - 5:12)

      • best sound quality available: 320kbps MP3 (WAVE files are FAKE)

    • Work In Progress (5:33)

LEAKED on April 30th, 2009 ("Dangerous Incorporated" leaked it on several forums by using a different nickname)

How can I be sure that I'm listening to the "Work In Progress" version?

      • playtime is 5:33 min (song ends at 5:28, 5 secs silence)

      • there's no spoken/muffled intro

      • the background music is identical to the original track "We Be Clubbin' " by Ice Cube

Hier noch was zu "I Have This Dream", einmal ein Ausschnitt aus einem Interview MIT Michael, indem er sagt, dass es den Song gibt, und dann noch etwas über den AOL Contest und die offiziellen Lyrics zu dem Song:

    -----------------------------------------------

There WAS a song that was never released called "I Have This Dream". MJ mentioned it in the TV Guide 1999 interview. :

TV Guide: Is there a new Michael for the millennium?

Michael: Yeah, I have a couple of things planned. I think it's going to be totally different than what I did before. There's a song on the new album called "I Have This Dream". It's a millennium song about the world and the environment that I cowrote with Carol Bayer Sager and David Foster.

    & also a contest :S :

[April 29, 2001] I Have This Dream - Press release

Tonos.com has combined forces with AOL Music to present a once-in-a-lifetime songwriting opportunity for AOL members to write the lyrics to I Have This Dream and the winner will have their words sung by the King Of Pop himself.
The song was written by Michael, 14-time Grammy-winning producer David Foster and Oscar winner/Songwriting Hall of Fame inductee Carole Bayer Sager. A statement by Tonos reads: "Music serves as a salve for what ails the human spirit and a remedy to the soul during troubled times. Now, these three musical icons have created an inspiring musical landscape entitled I Have This Dream, and they're asking AOL members to come up with an optimistic and uplifting lyric to complete this anthemic song."
All proceeds from this project will be donated to children's relief organizations around the world.
One AOL member's lyric will be chosen as the winner and MJ has agreed to record the song for possible inclusion on his next album. The winning AOL member will attend the recording session. There is also the possibility that the King of Pop will record the song with an all-star roster of artists, not unlike what he brought us in his timeless message of love, "We Are The World."
To enter the contest and to hear music and chorus lyrics to Michael's much talked about I Have This Dream, fans can visit TONOS at http://www.tonos.com

The winner of the contest a few years ago is named Ric Kipp, the following link is an article on BMI about the song.

    http://bmi.com/musicworld/musicpeople/200208/rkipp.asp

Mr Kipp's lyrics are here (although we know for a fact that Michael has written the actual lyrics on the song to be released, even if it's the same song):

We are here, then we're gone
In the end only love lives on
So take a moment while you can
To stop one heart from breaking

I've felt peace and I've felt pain
Every generation seems to pass the blame
It's up to us to make a change
Let it ring across the land

I have this dream, which I believe
That the world can live as one in harmony
    Every child who's born
Needs to believe that he belongs
    I have this dream

You and I have this chance
To hold the future in our hands
We can light the darkest night
    And make a new tomorrow

I have this dream, which I believe
That the world can live as one in harmony
    Every child who's born
Needs to believe that he belongs
    I have this dream

It's a dream that once began
Becomes a song that has no end
And when the angels all join in
    We'll make the heavens sing

Und noch etwas zu dem Song "Another Day" mit Lenny Kravitz:
    -------------------------------------

    Blender Magazine, Oct/Nov 2001

Kravitz quips, and slides a CD into the Compass Point sound system, producing a
guttural guitar sound, a cracking backbeat and an extremely familiar voice.

"Working with Michael Jackson was probably the best recording experience of my
life", he says. "He was totally cool, absolutely professional and a beautiful,
beautiful guy. And let's not forget, Michael is a musical genius."

The song, "Another Day", which Kravitz wrote and produced, will appear on
Jackson's long-awaited new album. It transports you back to more innocent days,
when 'Beat It' ruled the world.

    Nochwas zu "We Be Ballin":

Email from the producer Rick "dutch" Cousin:

"I have suddenly received a lot of inquiries regarding the song "We Be Ballin'". I am not sure why, but, at least 100 people out of nowhere have suddenly gained interest in this recording. Well here's the story in it's entirety...

I produced and co-wrote the title track from "The Player's Club" Movie (Ice Cube's Directorial Debut) entitled "We Be Clubbin'" in 1997. The song was an instant hit and the following year, we all thought it to be a good idea to do a remix version of the song entitled "We Be Ballin'" featuring Michael Jackson & Shaquille O'Neal. The song was to be released on an NBA Compilation album set to be released that year and was also going to be featured in the infamous NBA "I Love This Game" themed commercials. The NBA season was cut in half that year due to the player initiated strike against the league and the entire project seemed to just disappear. The Song was HOTT and there was a lot of buzz around the song at that time but no one ever wanted to revive the idea and it was left alone. Any information that you may have about why so many folks are all of a sudden interested would be greatly appreciated. The only folks I know to have copies of the record are Michael Jackson, Ice Cube and myself and maybe less than a handful of other people.

Anyway, hope this information helps you out, take care"

We don't have the original 1997 version.

Here are 'We Be Ballin'' versions:

    1) original version (1997): "We Be Clubbin'" by Ice Cube

    2) mixed version (1997): "We Be Ballin' (Clubbin' Remix)" by Ice Cube with Michael Jackson and Shaq (unreleased) published on A&M label (included on the promo cd which is on eBay)

    3) cover version by Ricky Romance (2003): "We Be Ballin'" Ricky Romance (including MJ chorus from 1997 version).

US Weekly: The King and Prince to Collaborate
According to the new issue of US Weekly Magazine (March 5, 2001), Michael Jackson may be heading into the studio with 80's rival Prince, presumably for a collaboration on Michael's new album. The magazine quotes music insiders, saying: "The two are talking about recording together. Jackson was due to go to Studio 54 on February 13, where Price was celebrating his new NPG Music Club Web site, but he got delayed in the studio." Another source adds, "They've always respected each other's work and see this as a chance to combine their talents."

In a seperate story in the same issue, the publication asked Access Hollywood anchor Nancy O'Dell who her dream interview would be. "Michael Jackson," she says. "A lot of people misunderstand him, but if you're sourthern (like me), you can get real with people."

Zu Ekam Satyam (The One Truth) folgendes aus dem MJJForum:

    Jackson, Rehman enthral audience

MUNICH, June 28 (PTI) - Melodious strains of "Satyameva jayate" (truth shall triumph) by music wizard A.R. Rehman provided an appropriate icing to an enchanting concert by pop king Michael Jackson here last night in aid of the world's needy children with a fusion experiment promoted by the Hinduja family.

Rehman and his fellow artistes, including Shobhana and Prabhu Deva, rung the curtains down on the nine-hour open air concert after Jackson electrified over 55,000-strong audience belting his famous numbers including his favourite "We are the world" at the gigantic Olympic Stadium.

Jackson, who briefly joined the Indian troupe's show sponsored by the Hinduja Foundationa, gave a rendition of the English translation of a Sanskrit verse and Rehman's number "Ekam satyam" (one truth) with folded hands wearing a white outfit designed by Indian fashion designer Manish Malhotra.

Jackson, however, had to cut short his concert for a hospital treatment for unspecified reason. He was discharged early today.

Vinoo Hinduja, daughter of Srichand P. Hinduja, who initiated the move to bring Indian music on the world stage, said, "I hope this little effort of mine would make the world savour the richness of the Indian music.

Rehman used a synthesis of contemporary sounds with the help of traditional Indian instruments like thavil, ganjira, ghatam and sarangi to echo the richness of the Indian music.

Jackson to Release ARR's 'Ekam Satyam'

If you're looking for another reason to look forward to Michael Jackson's latest album - Invincible, due out Oct. 30 - then check this out.

A.R. Rahman will collaborate with Jackson on "Ekam Satyam," a single which will be released later this fall.

"The song 'Ekam Satyam' (one truth) was composed for the 'What More Can I Give' charity concert at Munich," Rahman told India-West in an email this weekend.

"It was agreed with Jackson that it would be released as a single after his album is out."

The lyrics to "Ekam Satyam" are by Kanika Myer Bharat and A.R. Parthasarthi.

"He gives an intro in English at the beginning bars of the song," explained Rahman. "There is a chant chorus which sings in Sanskrit about the 'one power' and our association with it."

The new album and upcoming all-star concert (which is scheduled to feature guest performances by *NSync, Britney Spears and Ricky Martin) are expected to generate new interest.

Jackson will perform Sept. 7 and 10 at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Here's a few other articles about this song, including the lyrics of what Michael supposedly sang (or spoke) as a conclusion to the Michael & Friends concert. The first article references his concert as the "What More Can I Give" concert but it is actually referring to the MJ & Friends charity concert.

NEW DELHI: Last week, Michael Jackson teamed up with A.R. Rehman to conclude his "What More Can I Give" concert with a Sanskrit shloka drawn from the Upanishads: "The truth is... We see it everywhere... All around us. The truth is... There is Only One... Ekam Satyam, Ekam Satyam... Ekam Tat Sat."

Only one truth, visible everywhere, and of Indian origin too. For, India seems to be the current flavour in popular culture the world over. If Jackson dons a bandh gala suit, designed by Manish Malhotra, and jiggles with Prabhu Deva to Rehman's jingles, then Madonna sashays with Om Shanti and Alanis Morisette sings Thank You India. Andrew Llyod Weber selects Shekhar Kapur to direct The Phantom Opera, McDonald's spices up its McWorld with McSamosas and curry parlours create a storm in Britain.

At present, Bala does not intend selling audio and video cassettes of his production. "These will be released on January 26 next year," he says, though with a note of uncertainty. Having had a successful career as an advertiser for over a decade, Bharat was inspired by his father, V.Ganpathy, a freedom-fighter, to do something to revive the spirit of nationalism in the country. "One day he asked me why not make something to sell India back to its people? And that was when "Vande Mataram..." was born. The first version was sung by A.R. Rehman and the second by Lata Mangeshkar."

This was followed by "Ekam Satyam...", the only Indian song to be performed by Michael Jackson for the "Michael Jackson and Friends - The Adventure of Humanity" show in Munich.

Bharat is currently working on a new series titled "Gurus of Peace", a series documenting the living peace-makers of the world and an attempt to understand where 'non-violence' stands in the 21st Century. And, be sure, he does have something big to give to India in the coming century.

I will try to post more articles later on which have a few other details about this song that was supposed to be released for Invincible and as a single.

    ---

I've been at the MJ & Friends concert in Munich 1999. A.R. Rahman did perform, but NOT WITH MICHAEL. During the performance you could see a video message of Michael saying that he thanks everyone for beeing there and stuff. But A.R. Rahman did definetly NOT performed with Michael.

Michael was rushed to the hospital right after his own performance.

Rahman and Michael Jackson - The new combo

A.R. Rahman is making India proud by making Indian music popular globally. He has now worked with Michael Jackson on a single Ekam Satyam. The Sanskrit portions have been written by A.R. Parthasarathy and have been rendered y Rahman himself while the English lyrics by Kanika Myer Bharat (as in Kanika and Bharatbala of Bharatbala Productions) have been sung by Michael Jackson. The album is scheduled to be released at the end of this year. What's more, Jackson could include these lyrics in his next album, Invincible.

Initially, the lyrics were penned for the MJ and Friends Concert held in Munich in June 1999. It became a super hit and it was decided to release the song as a single.

    Below is AR Rahman's interview

Is it true that you have worked with Michael Jackson on a single, titled Ekam Satyam?

Yes, I have worked with Michael Jackson on a single, titled Ekam Satyam. The track composed by me is part English and part Sanskrit. I have rendered the Sanskrit portions written by A.R Parthasarathy while Michael Jackson has rendered the English lyrics written by Kanika Myer Bharat.

How did the song happen in the first place?

To tell the truth, initially it was penned especially for the MJ And Friends Concert, which was held in Munich in June 1999. However since it became immensely popular among Jackson fans in the West, I am told it was decided to release the song- the duet sung by Jackson and myself as a single.
