  • Jackson denies plan to quit Bahrain

    By TARIQ KHONJI

BAHRAIN: Pop star Michael Jackson yesterday dismissed reports that he plans to quit Bahrain for a country estate in Britain.

He was reported in a British newspaper to have been making inquiries about buying a stately home in the countryside.

Jackson and his three children have been staying on and off at Cliveden, in Berkshire, southern England, for the past month, said the Mail on Sunday.

But a Bahrain source close to the star said yesterday that the report was untrue.

He said Jackson was still living in Bahrain and had just returned from the UK, but had no plans to purchase any property there.

"The place he had been staying at was a very exclusive rented premises, like a hotel and was never for sale anyway," said the source.

Mr Jackson first came to Bahrain on June 29 as a guest of Southern Governor Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa and has since made it his legal home.

Cliveden, one of Britain's grandest stately homes, has a colourful past that adds to its allure.

A swimming pool in the grounds was where John Profumo, a former minister caught up in a Cold War sex and spy tangle, first met the call girl Christine Keeler, who ended his career.

Profumo died last Friday, aged 91.

  • Jackson will nach England ziehen
    Popstar bekundet Interesse an Luxus-Landsitz

• Jacko's UK move

    Monday, 13 March, 2006

Michael Jackson is thinking about moving to the UK - after becoming enchanted with one of Britain's most famous stately homes.

The eccentric star, who has been living in Bahrain since he was cleared on child molestation charges last year, has spent the last few weeks at Cliveden - which was made famous by the Profumo sex scandal in the 1960s.

It is understood the 'Billie Jean' singer asked if he could buy the grand house.

But he was told the plush mansion belonged to the National Trust and was not available for sale.

His spokesman said: "Nobody would be surprised if Michael ended up staying in Britain."

A source close to the star told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "Michael has a special affinity for the UK and can see himself living there."

Meanwhile, the pop icon has become so obsessed with exercising he's doing 300 push-ups a day.

The singer's brother, Jermaine, claims his sibling is sticking to a rigorous fitness regime in a bid to build up his muscles.

He said: "He's doing 300 push-ups a day and doing sit-ups. He's getting his muscles back."

  • Jackson ‘planning on buying Berkshire home Monday, 13 March, 2006

LONDON: US pop singer Michael Jackson may be thinking about moving to Britain after he made enquiries about purchasing a stately home in the country, a newspaper said yesterday.

The former megastar and his three children have been staying on and off at Cliveden, a magnificent dwelling in Berkshire, for the past month, the Mail on Sunday reported.

The weekly said “it was understood†that Jackson, 47, had asked whether the mansion was up for sale, only to be told it belonged to The National Trust and was leased to a hotel group.

The star’s official spokesman, however, told the newspaper: “It would surprise no one if Michael ended up staying in Britain.â€

Cliveden, one of the country’s grandest stately homes, has a colourful past that adds to its allure.

A swimming pool in the grounds was where John Profumo, a former minister caught up in a Cold War sex and spy tangle, first met the ravishing young call girl Christine Keeler who ended his career. Profumo died on Friday aged 91.

Jackson, for his part, has other housing problems at present. California authorities have closed his Neverland ranch after workers complained they have not been paid since December.

The pop star has spent most of his time in Bahrain since he was acquitted last June of sexual molestation charges by a California jury.

During his trip to Britain, Jackson, using the pseudonym Mr Tucker, has also stayed at a hotel in the Cotswolds, southwest England, and visited Scotland, according to Mail on Sunday.

  • LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Michael Jackson's spokeswoman denied a London newspaper report that the pop icon was looking for a new home in Britain.

"Information disseminated this weekend from London is totally erroneous," Raymone Bain told AFP. "He's not purchased a house in London, he's not been scouting schools for his kids, he has no intention to moving to London."

The Mail on Sunday had reported that Jackson and his three children have been staying on and off at a Cliveden, one of Britain's grandest stately homes in Berkshire, southern England, for the past month.

The weekly said "it was understood" that Jackson, 47, had asked whether the mansion was up for sale, only to be told it belonged to The National Trust and was leased to a hotel group.

"The reports having originated out of London regarding this thing are untrue," Bain said.

"It quotes an official spokesperson, which I assume is me," she said. "I've not spoken to anybody, in any publication in London regarding Mr. Jackson's intentions of moving to London, this is totally erroneous and they need to stop it."

The former pop superstar left his Neverland ranch north of Los Angeles after he was acquitted in June on sexual molestation charges by a California jury.

Since then, he has spent most of his time in Bahrain.

California authorities have closed his ranch after workers complained they have not been paid since December.

Bain declined to comment on the ranch closing.
