Review: Michael Jackson Documentary 'Square On' Proves He's Innocent!!

By MTO Staff , UPDATED: Oct 7, 2019
    | ORIGINAL: Oct 7, 2019

A new documentary was released last week - and it's called Square One. The documentary offers evidence that the creator claims will prove that Michael Jackson is innocent of any child molestation.

The documentary was produced by Danny Wu - a YouTuber and up-and-coming filmmaker who grew up as an MJ fan. Danny watched “Leaving Neverland” and, after doing some research, decided that there could be no way that Michael Jackson was guilty of his accused crimes.

The documentary appears to answer many of the questions that fans have - as to whether Michael was really guilty of child molestation charges.

It sets out a powerful counter-narrative to many of the recent anti-Michael Jackson films.

Here's how one reviewer explained the plot of the movie:

The actual chronology of the film walks us through the history of the Chandler family, with a particular focus, of course, on Evan Chandler, and his growing rage.
It establishes perfectly the sequence of events leading to Chandler’s extortion of Jackson and why Chandler filed a criminal report, when he clearly had had no intention of alerting authorities regarding the supposed abuse of his child.
The film makes very clear, as well, why Jackson settled, and how this settlement never voided the possibility of a criminal trial if there had been any evidence to do so.
Wu also addresses and clarifies La Toya Jackson’s support (at the time) of the allegations, Victor Gutierrez and Rodney Allen’s role in the fiasco, and concludes with a short section touching on the Arvizo case.
The film’s greatest accomplishment is to put all these puzzle pieces together in a way that any viewer can comprehend.
Once set in place, there is a sense of crystal-clear understanding that, as Geraldine Hughes says, “Michael Jackson was the victim of an elaborate extortion scheme which launched the allegations.”

    Here is the film:

Danny Wu’s documentary SQUARE ONE about Michael Jackson is a MUST-SEE

    October 9, 2019

Danny Wu did a remarkable job.

His SQUARE ONE documentary does away with the allegations against Michael Jackson in a very concise and clear way, and what amazes me most is that despite the documentary being only 1 hour and 20 minutes long he manages to cover it all and not miss a thing. Out of the vast exculpatory materials accumulated since Michael Jackson’s passing, Danny Wu managed to select only the most essential facts and documents that tell the truth about those allegations in their most condensed form.

How Michael Jackson was Extorted – Square One: Review.

    October 13, 2019 • By Admin Team

    square-one-mj-michael-jackson-1024x576.jpg

    Review by Pez Jax

In a year where many of us were expecting Spike Lee’s Thriller documentary to complete the trilogy of behind the scenes glances at Michael Jackson’s most successful records, we’re instead seeing documentaries of a different kind.

Following a slanderous and inaccurate movie with a singular narrative being released earlier this year, the conversation about accusations against Michael Jackson, have once again been a focal point for the media. With the movie opting to present claims that have now been debunked, no evidence to backup assertions and no voice for the opposing council; a vacuum was formed that desperately needed filling with truthful information, using facts as its source. Enter Square One.

    Danny-Wu-1024x461.jpgDirector Danny Wu

Square One takes us back to the first allegation of child abuse against Michael Jackson and thrusts it under a much-needed microscope. Through a chronological exploration, director Danny Wu demonstrates cohesively how Jackson became the victim of extortion by Evan Chandler.

Disregarding any input of feeling to focus completely on facts, Wu has enlisted the help of Charles Thomson, an award-winning investigative journalist, who uses his calm and clear persona to provide an overview of the events that took place.

Thomson’s input really helps to elevate the documentary as he uses countless hours of research and extensive knowledge to present the timeline in layman’s-terms. Perhaps one of the most informative moments is when Thomson explains the differences between the Civil and Criminal trial and explains how Jackson and his team were adamant that the criminal trial come first – Simply put, Jackson wanted to take the accusations to the criminal courts and fight his case. The Chandlers wanted the civil case to precede, ensuring their pay-day first. The Chandlers were offered the chance to take Jackson to criminal court following the settlement of the lawsuit they brought against Jackson – They chose not to do so.

Geraldine-Hughes-1024x557.jpgFormer Legal Secretary to Barry Rotham, Geraldine Hughes

Wu also provides first-hand accounts from Taj Jackson on the photoshoot for the ‘Why’ single cover and Geraldine Hughes, who served as a legal secretary for the Chandler’s attorney Barry Rothman. As well as Jackson-fans Caroline Fristedt and Jenny Wining who spent the day at Neverland with Gavin Arvizo on the date he claimed the abuse took place and subsequently were added to the witness list in the 2005 trial.

The documentary also introduces Josephine Zhony to the world. Zhony, a freelance PR specialist attended New York University as an undergraduate studying Music Business, a course that was also attended by Jordan Chandler. Zhony delivers an account of that time in the same class as Chandler.

What’s vital about Zhony’s account is that at no time does she claim to have been a confidant of Chandler, nor does she claim that Chandler ever discussed his connection to Michael Jackson with her. She clearly states how the two crossed paths and where an interaction that related to Jackson came up.

The success of Wu’s documentary lies in his ability to outline the circumstances in a clear timeline of events, whilst managing to cover other important chapters, such as Jackson’s suffering from Vitiligo and Lupus, The LaToya Jackson claims and the use of Sodium Amytal – All which lead back into the chronology Wu is presenting.

Square One really does take you back to the very foundation of these allegations and discusses the source material from which Leaving Neverland takes its direction. The discredited fantasy piece produced by Chilean journalist and convicted fraud Victor Gutierrez, who as far back as 1986 began a campaign to present Jackson as a paedophile, to serve as the poster-child for NAMBLA.

It demonstrates Gutierrez’s undeniable involvement in each and every shady character that attempted to tie Jackson to such heinous crimes.

    Evan-Tapes-1024x545.jpg

If Square One doesn’t shock you to the core, you were not paying attention. Wu and Thomson’s extensive research can be fully supported by legal documentation, testimony and irrefutable facts. The tape recording of Chandler’s intention, which also features in Square One, should have served as a smoking gun many years ago. Now taking its place in the full timeline, one can see exactly how Evan Chandler sought to extort money from Jackson

It’s been questioned by some as to how Square One is able to challenge the narrative presented in Leaving Neverland and it’s easy to explain – The only reason the media and public are susceptible to accusations against Jackson is because of the first accusation. By proving the first accusation false, then the rest need to be pulled into question and scrutinised.

“This is not about Michael Jackson” claimed Leaving Neverland’s creator, despite the full title of the hit piece being ‘Leaving Neverland: Michael Jackson and Me’ – a statement he has contradicted through his own actions at every outing. However, Square One really isn’t about Michael Jackson. it’s about everything happening around him at the time, using facts to drive the narrative.

In an era where factions of the Me-Too movement continue to attempt to repress anybody who uses factual evidence from challenging an accusation, Square One serves as a stark reminder as to just how important facts are, because in Jackson’s case they clearly demonstrate the other side of the story, that no amount of ‘feeling sharing’ can deny. This is about dealing with extortion – Which is exactly what the 1993 claims were.

Whilst Square One may not have the platform that other movies this year have received, its Youtube distribution is reflective of today’s attitude of free knowledge and information sharing for all. Shouldering the financial commitments for production has allowed Wu to create a documentary free from corporate bias or mainstream agenda, on one of the most accessible platforms in the world – It may not reach the masses, but it will reach the right people – The people looking for the truth, willing to open their minds, interested in facts over feelings.

For anybody who invested 4-hours this year in a constructed, emotionally manipulative, disturbed fantasy movie; Watch Square One. The truth doesn’t need 4-hours (or whatever the current runtime is due to the multiple re-edits due to claims being proven false) and you’ll learn exactly why others think that accusing Jackson is financially viable avenue to go down.

To the fans – Share Square One with your family, with your work colleagues, with your friends – What Square One demonstrates is why Michael continues to have your support and the support of millions of people all around the world.

Chinese Michael Jackson fans paid tribute to the singer following the screening of Chinese-Canadian Danny Wu's documentary Square One in Beijing on Sunday.

The film is an investigation into 1993 allegations of sexual abuse against Jackson brought by the family of the alleged victim Jordan Chandler. It uncovers new evidence and information in defense of the singer through interviews with the people closest to the case, such as Jackson's nephew and the legal assistant to the accuser's lawyers in 1993.

Square One premiered in Hollywood on September 28 and in London on October 5. That same day, it made its global debut on Wu's YouTube channel.

"In LA, the biggest shock to me was how many people showed up. And you know there were a lot of high-profile people over there. They were Hollywood actors. They were big YouTube stars, Michael Jackson's lawyers, his family… I got a standing ovation in the end which surprised me as well. In London, same thing. People were more reserved, standing ovation at the end, which I didn't expect at all," Wu told the Global Times after the screening and a Q&A session with the audience.

    Feeling connected

With support from China's biggest Jackson fan website, mjjcn.com, the documentary's Chinese-subtitled version was screened in eight cities across China including Shanghai, Shenzhen and Chengdu, with Beijing the last stop. Tickets for the film sold out quickly, as the tour attracted a multitude of the late singer's fans in China.

"This is one of the most connected fan groups I've ever seen anywhere. Because, not only are they online, but they are also going to meet up in real life having real life interactions, which does not happen very often in the West," said Wu.

Wu attended screenings in different cities and enjoyed the discussions with audiences, most of whom were Michael Jackson fans. After the screening, one fan said that the film felt like a redemption for the singer as it presents the truth to the public, while a mother said she brought her 11-year-old son with her, hoping he'd learn more about Jackson as well.

"You can see how connected they feel to Michael Jackson. I realize that this is way beyond music and dance. This is people really connecting to him at a deeper level. I don't think I really understood that until this trip," Wu added.

    Doing some digging

Premiering at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival on January 25, Leaving Neverland featured accounts from two former child stars Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who accused the late singer of sexually assaulting them in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In its review, Variety said it "offers devastatingly powerful and convincing testimony that Michael Jackson was guilty of child sexual abuse."

Wu watched Leaving Neverland as well. He said that after noticing what he felt were a lot of inconsistencies in the film, he started doing research on his own. In April, he posted on his YouTube channel his interviews with Taj Jackson, Michael Jackson's nephew, and Brandi Jackson, the pop star's niece in a piece titled Returning to Neverland: Taj and Brandi Jackson Interview. Wu noted that the interviews received quite a bit of attention from Jackson fans, which he thinks helped gain people's trust as an investigator on YouTube.

In 2005, Jackson was faced with a second child molestation case, which ended up with his acquittal. Wu said that during the trial, he heard that more than one person who knew Chandler testified in court saying that Chandler told them that nothing had ever happened.

"No one ever confirmed [that people had testified]. But it just became my obsession to find one of these names. And I looked into it for a long time. And I got a name, there was Josephine Zohny," said Wu.

It took Wu some effort to talk Zohny into defending Jackson publicly. After his interview with her, Wu realized that one witness may not be convincing enough so he changed his format and turn his YouTube series into a documentary.

"In the West, all the online discussions about whether Michael Jackson was guilty or not. All the people who think he was guilty, they always go back to one point. Why did he pay the settlement? Why did he pay a kid 20 million dollars? So that was the root of all the problems… But the 1993 case has never gone to trial. So there are a lot of myths and legends around that case. So I just kept building around it. I kept adding new people in, and people kept dropping out," he added.

    To be continued

Wu and Michael Jackson's Chinese fans believe in the singer's innocence and plan to show their support by promoting Square One.

The documentary will soon be screened in Amsterdam, and a new version different from the YouTube version will likely be available on Amazon Prime in the US in January 2020. As for China, mjjcn.com is considering collaborating with a domestic video-streaming website to screen the film.

"My dad used to bring DVDs of Michael Jackson dancing. And he was like 'Yeah, let me show you something impressive.' And we just watched Michael Jackson DVDs all day. So that's like a very big part of my childhood. I feel I owe so much happiness to Michael Jackson for this family time so that it's only right I'm doing this now," said Wu.

When asked what he'd say to the singer, Wu answered, "I'm trying my best. I'm doing my part. And I hope that can be appreciated and maybe the world one day will see you for who you really are."

Square One mounts a full-throated defense of Michael Jackson against the charges of pedophilia that plagued him in the latter part of his life and career. The centerpiece of the film lies in its debunking of the initial allegations made against Jackson in 1993. If those allegations can be disproven, the film seems to be arguing, then the subsequent charges against Jackson must be dismissed as well. To assist in this endeavor, filmmaker Danny Wu has assembled a series of never-before-aired statements from case witnesses, and new interviews with figures in Jackson's inner circle, including his nephew and 3T band member Taj Jackson.
