I can count the autographs I have on one hand, and they are precious to
    me.

I talked to Michael Bush a little yesterday at San Francisco book signing. I posted what he told me in full here:

    http://www.mjjcommunity.com/fo…68&viewfull=1#post3749568

    The part about the controversy:

I asked about the auction - when he donated the
costumes to the estate and Why he sold some of the iconic pieces.
He confirmed that he donated clothes to the estate before the Juliens
catalog was put together. He basically gave the estate the first choice
to pick whatever they wanted, and they did. Why they didn't take Bad
tour clothes or HIStory teaser costume - he doesn't know. He said
that they may have copies of some things as stage clothes was
manufactured in 2-3 copies, but he doesn't know for sure. He gave them
    what they asked for.
(It seems like he donated Smooth Criminal lean
shoes to the estate, because when I asked about them, he said the
    estate has them.)
When I asked who made selection - the executors, the kids or Katherine -
he said he didn't know. He assumed it was a collective choice.
Overall it seemed to me, that he is not in close contact with the estate.
Somefans depict Bush as Branca's friend, ally, co-conspirator and whatnot -
he isn't. From his answers is seemed that he communicated with the
estate about the book and the auction through some formal
representative, and he doesn't have much information about what they
    have in possession.

I asked about the autograph controversy. Bush declined to comment and
said that he was only there to sign the book and didn't want to touch
that. I said, "Fair enough," but I also told him that I though it was
in his best interest to clear this out, because some fans are
boycotting and harming the book due to the controversy, and the book is
very important for Michael's legacy. He said he understood, and that
the situation would be cleared through proper and official sources.
(I won't hold my breath though. But we'll see). Overall he seemed just a simple and nice guy to me.)

I also asked some of my questions from the Q&A thread:

    http://www.mjjcommunity.com/fo…bmit-your-questions/page5

I asked if it's true that museums have rejected Michael's clothes (as
was stated in ICONIC magazine). Bush said yes, due to different
reasons, including legal issues and the fact that the clothes should be
preserved under very strict temperature/light conditions which not all
museums are ready to provide. So it seemed more like technical issues
than disdain for MJ (which I feared it might have been).

I asked what happened to the trial suits and if there's any chance that
they'll be featured in a book or exposition in future. Bush said they
are not in his possession. He said Katherine asked for 4 of the suits -
for her to keep. A few of the suits Michael kept, so they are probably
in the estate's possession now. He also said that when he
communicated with the estate about the book, they requested/advised not
to include the trial suits in the book. He plans to release a 2nd
edition/part 2 of the book though, and maybe he'll include them there.
(I won't hold my breath for part 2 either, but who knows... He seemed to be pretty serious about it.)

I asked about the fencing suits and if Versace
had anything to do with them. Bush said that Versace had absolutely
nothing to do with them and was nowhere near. The idea of the fencing
suit was theirs and Michael's, and it was developed by Bush and
Tompkins. He says that maybe the rumor about Versace started because
there is a photo of Michael and Versace together during the Dangerous
    tour.

I asked about the runes and funny letters in the HIStory teaser. Bush
said they where Michael's idea and they didn't mean anything - he wanted
something that doesn't belong to any particular language, so that no
country could claim it and it would be equal for every fan in the world.

I asked if MJ's clothes ever didn't work as supposed to on stage, and if
Michael got mad about it. Bush said that no, MJ always laughed it off,
he was very nice and polite to the staff and didn't get anxious about
things like this. He remembered an occasion when a button came off on
MJ's gold HIStory suit, and Michael freaked out because it meant a flap
right on his chest. But Bush quickly fixed it with some stapler.

I asked if Dennis was on tours with Michael - Bush said no, he didn't
like to travel much, he stayed home and worked on new clothes while Bush
helped MJ on the road. That way they made sure all fronts were
    covered.

Funny bit: He says when they went somewhere in the car with Michael, MJ
always tried to make him sing karaoke. He used to say, "Come on, Bush,
everybody sings in the shower!" Bush used to reply, "I don't. Don't
    make me sing, Michael."

He remembered that Michael used to buy books in different countries of
the world. Because he couldn't do proper sightseeing, he flipped through
books and looked at famous places there.

He said that his relationship with MJ was always more employer/employee
than friends - for example, he usually didn't stay for dinners when he
visited Michael in Neverland, etc. He did see a lot of Michael's life
though, and he says that it was a hard life...

    Hello Everyone!

Darren Julien has agreed to conduct an EXCLUSIVE interview with MJJCollectors.com. As you all know, the recent Tompkins & Bush memorabilia auction held by Julien’s Auctions caused quite a bit of controversy among some members of the MJ fan community. Julien wants to state his position and respond to this criticism, and has chosen our site as a forum to do so.

This is YOUR opportunity to ask Darren Julien anything and everything you would like (including, but not limited to, the recent Tompkins & Bush auction). We only have one criteria for this: BE RESPECTFUL. This is NOT an opportunity for anyone to besmirch or attack Julien and/or Michael Bush (you have other platforms for that), and accusatory or disrespectful questions will be deleted from this thread.

If you don’t want your questions to be posted here, you can email them to us privately at admin@mjjcollectors.com. Feel free to ask as many questions as you would like, and we will select the best ones to ask him. Please post here or email your questions on or before Tuesday, December 18th. Okay, then, let’s get started!

    Ron

  • Visionary!

Investigation: Autographed Michael Jackson Memorabilia May Be Phony</big>
An auction featuring autographed memorabilia from the King of Pop garnered more than $5 million in one day
By Joel Grover, Chris Henao and Phil Drechsler| Tuesday, Dec 18, 2012

Three years after his death, Michael Jackson remains the "King of Pop."
Fans are willing to pay big bucks for almost anything with Jackson’s
autograph. But an NBC4 I-Team Investigation found evidence that some of
these autographs being sold may be fakes.

Acting on a tip, the I-Team attended a Dec. 2 auction at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills
of Jackson memorabilia owned by the singer’s longtime costume designers
    Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush.

The auction garnered more than $5 million in one day. Buyers included Lady Gaga, who tweeted
that she bought 55 items, including a $180,000 jacket with Jackson’s signature.

Experts say many of the items sold for high prices because they were supposedly
autographed by Jackson himself. But five nationally-known autograph
authenticators tell the I-Team that at least some of the auctioned
    autographs are probably fakes.

"I would definitely stake my reputation on the fact that these autographs are not authentic,"
autograph authenticator Roger Epperson said after examining signatures
from 50 of the nearly 300 signed items recently auctioned at Julien’s.

Epperson is widely known as one of the nation’s experts on Michael Jackson’s
autograph. He authenticates autographs for some of the nation’s biggest
auction houses, and sells signed memorabilia himself.

One of the items Epperson examined was an autographed jacket (pictured below) from
Jackson’s “Bad” Tour, bought for $4,375 by Beverly Hills dentist Joseph
Goodman. "I am a big Michael Jackson fan," Goodman told the I-Team. "I
    wanted something signed."

"There’s a zero percent chance that that’s an authentic signature of
Michael Jackson," Epperson said after examining the signature on the
jacket Goodman bought. "The slant of the 'M' in 'Jackson' leans towards
the right. A real one leans more to the left. The shapes are wrong, the
slants are wrong, the size is wrong."

Experts say authenticating autographs is not science, but rather an expertise based on years of
studying signatures. So the I-Team asked four more well-known
authenticators to examine 11 autographed items from the Julien’s
auction, including PSA/DNA, a company which authenticates for Christie’s
    Auction House and eBay.

Three of the four experts said it was their opinions that all 11 signatures were probably fakes.
"Likely Not Genuine" is how PSA/DNA characterized the 11 autographs. The fourth
expert said eight of the autograph samples we sent were "not likely to
be genuine," and on three of them he was "unable to render an opinion."

The I-Team spoke with Michael Bush, Jackson’s longtime designer and the
owner of the items auctioned at Julien’s. The I-Team asked Bush, who
made millions from the Dec. 2 auction, Why he thought experts were
saying the autographs on his memorabilia were fake.

"I don’t know how to respond to it," he said. "I’m going to fake a bunch of
signatures, a bunch of clothes, to destroy my reputation for 25 years of
    working for Michael? No, no."

The owner of Julien’s Auctions, Darren Julien, told the I-Team he believes the autographs
he sold are genuine. "They come from someone who worked very closely with Michael
Jackson … the people who made the items for Michael Jackson," Julien said.

The I-Team asked Julien to provide us with the names of any
experts his auction used to authenticate the autographed items he sold
for more than $1.5 million on Dec. 2. Julien told us to contact Laura
Woolley, owner of The Collector’s Lab.

But Woolley told the I-Team she’s an appraiser of auction items, not an autograph
authenticator. And she said one of the authenticators used by the
    I-Team, PSA/DNA, is reputable.

"I think they do great work," she said of PSA/DNA.

Woolley did say she’s looked at many of the autographed items in the Julien’s
auction and thinks they’re genuine autographs. "I have no reason to
doubt Michael Bush. The provenance of these signatures is solid,"
    Woolley said.

Many autograph experts and buyers disagree, and are posting their comments on websites like Autograph Magazine Live.

"All but a few autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale (at Julien’s) are so
bad they don’t even resemble Michael Jackson’s signature," said Steve
Cyrkin, editor of Autograph Magazine Live.

Those comments appear to have caught the attention of the FBI. Two of the I-Team’s sources
said they have been contacted by the FBI about the allegedly fake
autographs, and said that the agency requested interviews with them. FBI
Spokesperson Laura Eimiller would "neither confirm nor deny" that the
agency is investigating the autographs sold in the recent auction.

The brewing controversy has some purchasers of Jackson memorabilia feeling
buyer’s remorse, including Goodman, who bought that signed jacket. "If
    it’s a fake signature, I don’t think I’m interested anymore" in keeping
    the jacket, Goodman said.

Julien has told the I-Team if any customer questions the authenticity of an autographed item they bought,
he will give them their money back.

Wie gesagt immer danach Ausschau halten, was bezweckt werden will.
