Jackson: Full Speed Ahead on Katrina Song

In his first talk with a reporter since the end of his criminal trial, pop superstar Michael Jackson said Saturday he is "moving full speed ahead" on plans to record a song for the benefit of Hurricane Katrina victims and feels that his creative juices are flowing again.

In a telephone call to The Associated Press, Jackson said the trial was "the hardest thing I've ever done in my life" and that he and his children were still in Bahrain "resting and recovering" from the ordeal.

Jackson said he has been at work on the charity song, tentatively titled, "From the Bottom of My Heart."

"I'm constantly working on it," he said.

Also on the line was Raymone K. Bain, Jackson's spokeswoman. She said the call would not be a full-fledged interview, and that Jackson just wanted to make contact to express his thanks for what he said was the AP's fair coverage of his trial.

Jackson has been staying in Bahrain as the guest of Prince Abdulla, the son of the king of Bahrain. Of his friend Prince Abdulla, he said, "He's the very best, amazing, so kind."

Asked about his health, Jackson said, "I'm feeling good." The singer had said during his trial that he was plagued by back problems.

Jackson was acquitted of child molestation in June after a five-month trial in Santa Maria, Calif. He has not appeared in public since and has spent much of his time in Bahrain.

Jackson wants the charity anthem to follow the success of the 1984 worldwide hit "We Are the World," which he co-wrote to benefit African starvation victims. Bain has said many artists have agreed to join the project, but the lineup hasn't been finalized.

kann dir nur zustimmen.

28 days later . . . and still waiting

In the movies, as in life, a lot can happen in 28 days.

Sandra Bullock plays a woman getting clean and sober in the 2000 film "28 Days."

Danny Boyle severely depopulates London -- and perhaps the world -- in his 2003 thriller "28 Days Later...."

A woman completes a full cycle in, you guessed it, 28 days.

If all this can happen in the time it takes February to come and go in some years -- 2006 among them -- then why can't Michael Jackson put together a star-studded charity single in 28 days?

It's been that long since the self-proclaimed King of Pop announced on his Web site that he would immediately reach out to other recording superstars for a track to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.

That same day, his ever-reliable spokeswoman, Raymone Bain, said, "It is his intention to record this record within the next two weeks."

I don't know where they get the calendars at Neverland Valley Ranch or Bahrain or wherever Jackson's hanging out these days, but two weeks have come and gone, and gone again.

What has happened in the 28 days since Jackson made his announcement?

Teen star Hilary Duff didn't wait to gather others around her to help the cause. She wrote a $200,000 check to the Red Cross and a $50,000 one to USA Harvest, which is supplying food to the hurricane shelters.

"It's heartbreaking to see the devastation on TV. People are missing family members, and they have absolutely nothing left, not even food or water," she told the press. "I want to do everything I can to help those who have survived to help rebuild their lives."

Oscar winner Morgan Freeman teamed up with the Red Cross for a charity auction.

Several charity concerts have taken place, including "From the Big Apple to the Big Easy," featuring Elton John, Jimmy Buffett, Bette Midler, Lenny Kravitz, Tom Waits and John Mayer.

On Friday, Harry Connick Jr. and Branford Marsalis performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity, and on Saturday, cable channel CMT hosted "One Country," a concert featuring George Strait, Alan Jackson, Willie Nelson and Martina McBride at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. All the proceeds from that event will benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.

It's interesting to note that "One Country" was announced Sept. 12, the same day Jackson told the world through his Web site who he had lined up to perform on his track.

On Friday, UK's national news agency, the Press Association, reported that the singer was contemplating relaunching his pop career in London. A Jackson insider even said the charity song, tentatively titled "From the Bottom of My Heart," would be released within the next fortnight.

That would be two weeks.

Strange, but haven't we heard this before?

Tjo das sehe ich auch so. Andererseits werden die da noch Jahre Zeit haben, bis das alles mal halbwegs wieder leb-bar ist. Zu spät muss es also garnicht werden - aber was die Öffentlichkeit angeht, ist es natürlich eine ganz andere Geschichte.

aber als charity für katrina isses längst zu spät, und auch für rita würde es langsam zeit werden.

klar können die leute auch in 3 monaten noch geld gebrauchen. ABER...der effekt des charity is dann verflogen,
und wenn das was mike dann rausbringt net ein HAMMER wird, dann isser (leider) schneller wieder in der versenkung, als es der song vielleicht verdient. er ist nun mal net SO angesagt im moment, darum gibts auch keinen "vorschuss" mehr, von all denen, die nicht gerade hardcore fans sind.
die leute draussen muss er mit qualität beeindrucken, nicht mit seinem namen. das zieht leider nicht mehr so wie früher.
nicht-fans kaufen sich die platte nicht einfach, weil MICHAEL JACKSON draufsteht.
das gefällt uns vielleicht nicht, aber so isses nun mal. wir dürfen uns nix vormachen, nur weil WIR ihn immer für den besten halten werden.
mike muss in die puschen kommen, und zwar mit etwas wirklich gutem. sonst wirds sehr sehr schwer....
