MICHAEL JACKSON reportedly pulled out of a planned appearance on AMERICAN IDOL due to stage fright.

The star had been rumoured to be staging a comeback during the live final of the hit TV show last week (21May08) despite denials from both his representatives and the show's producers.

But it has now been reported that Jackson was due to appear and the news was kept secret.

The Thriller hitmaker was eventually absent from the celeb-studded lineup and according to British tabloid newspaper The Sun, he pulled out at the last minute as he was too nervous to perform.

A source tells the publication, "This was his big chance but he got stage-fright. (He kept saying) 'I can't do it. Everyone will hate me'."

  • Michael Jackson - Promoter Jackson Incapable Of Las Vegas Show

A Las Vegas promoter has poured scorn on reports MICHAEL JACKSON is planning a Las Vegas spectacular - insisting the pop superstar is incapable of performing ever again.

Jackson prompted speculation he would headline his own Sin City residency when an equity group linked to the Las Vegas Hilton helped him save his Neverland Ranch from foreclosure.

He has also made a number of personal appearances in the Nevada city of late - including at an Ultimate Fighting Championship match on Saturday (24May08).

But promoter Jack Wishna - who helped Celine Dion secure her successful stint in Las Vegas - insists Jackson isn't fit enough to return to the stage.

He tells the National Enquirer , "Sadly, Michael's incapable of keeping promises, because he hasn't got the will to even show up anywhere, much less get himself into shape for a world-class performance. He might drop by to wave at guests, or do a dance on top of a limo, but a longterm show? That dream will never come true, I'm afraid."

MICHAEL Jackson pulled out of a massive television comeback performance last week because of stagefright, according to a report from the UK.

Nerves have killed the dreams of countless numbers of wannabes on the Idol franchise around the world. They can now count Jackson as one of them.
Jackson was booked to perform at the American Idol finale last week, but dropped out with only 24 hours notice, The Sun has reported in London.

"I can’t do it. Everyone will hate me," he was quoted as giving as the reason for his change of heart.
The Sun quoted an unnamed "insider" as saying: "This was his big chance but he got stagefright."

The possibility of a Jackson appearance was let slip by judge Paula Abdul on American television in the lead-up to the final, the Washington Post reported.
Jackson's career comeback is reportedly being masterminded by ex-Spice Girls svengali Simon Fuller.

The Idol appearance would have exposed the singer to a live TV audience of around 30 million people, as well as millions more when the inevitable YouTube clips started surfacing.

The final was used to promote other comebacks including a new single for disco queen Donna Summer and new album from Bryan Adams and George Michael.

ZZ Top also turned up to play backing band to the eventual winner as he sang Sharp Dressed Man. Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jnr and Jack Black appeared in a cameo skit.
