Akon ft. Michael Jackson - Hold my Hand

Akon: Freedom (Def Jam)

Is halt einfach mal was Anderes... -

Akon Sounds Off on Michael Jackson and Barack Obama
By Jesse Curti
Originally posted Sunday November 30, 2008 03:00 PM EST
Akon Photo by: Joey Foley / FilmMagicThe titles of his albums tell a story: First, Akon was in Trouble, then he was Konvicted. Now, with his current album, the hip-hop star is enjoying Freedom.
The Senegal-born singer sits down with PEOPLE in an exclusive interview to talk about his recent collaboration with Michael Jackson, working with New Kids on the Block and his thoughts about President-elect Barack Obama.
You did some work with Michael Jackson earlier in the year with 25th Anniversary of Thriller. How did you riff off each other musically?
Akon: The collaboration was incredible. From the first moment we actually met each other face-to-face it seemed like we had know each other for years. I was always a big fan, I knew everything about him. It was just astonishing to me that he knew a lot about me, and he was a fan of me as well. We clicked instantly. What surprised you the most about him?
Akon: How humble and how smart he was. Sometimes you get a certain perception from how the media portrays him, but [working with him] was completely opposite. An artist of that caliber and as big as he is, you would think he would have certain qualities that you probably wouldn't like, such as being very arrogant or stuck up. With him, it was like he had never put out a record before – he still had that hunger. You also did some work with New Kids on the Block. What was that like?
Akon: Those guys were the best. I met Donnie, and he let me be a part of this project. We did "Click Click" and "Put it on my Tab" and one other. That's when you know if it's in you: Regardless of how long it's been since you made your last record, you go in the studio and start creating as if this is the first record. It's always good to know that people still have that kind of passion for the music. Were you a fan of them before?
Akon: Of course. But it's amazing that you can go almost 20 years without putting out a record and still sell out arenas.Spin reported that you, T-Pain, Nelly and Pharell united to form a supergroup. Is that true?
Akon: This is something that we wish we could do. If it happens, that's great for the music industry because we're trying to bring fun back. Whether it can happen realistically, without politics getting in the middle of it, is the question. If it were up to us, the artists, it would have been done already.Outside of music, what else have you been pursuing?
Akon: Outside of music, I've been doing a lot of the label exec thing [at] Kon Live Distribution. The clothing line, Konvict Clothing, is urban streetwear. Then we have Aliaune, which is the more upscale corporate look. Then there's the Konfidence Foundation where we're giving back to Africa, creating a better environment for the children of Africa.Which celebrity would make a good president and why?
Akon: Celebrity? Obama! He's the biggest celebrity I know. He's gonna make an incredible president.Akon's new album, Freedom, drops Dec. 2.

Akon - Album : Freedom
Release Date : December 2, 2008
It’s easy to get complacent when you achieve the level of success Akon has. With worldwide sales of over 7 million albums, certified gold and platinum status in over 23 countries, hundreds of guest appearances (including a collaboration with Michael Jackson), and the record for the first artist to have the #1 and 2 songs simultaneously on the Billboard charts twice, you’d be forgiven for allowing Akon to lean back. But, to quote the singer himself, "The more successful I get, the harder I work to keep it."
Akon ushers in "new phase" with "Freedom"
Mon Dec 1, 12:52 am ET
Akon is working on a separate edition of "Freedom" that will include remixed versions of all the album's original songs, including a potential collaboration with Bono and Sting on the title track. The repackaged version will be available early next year.
Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson recently had Akon-produced songs leak on the Internet -- "Like I Never Left" and "Hold My Hand," respectively -- but Akon assures that he has no information on whether either will release a comeback album any time soon. "With those types of artists you can't really say," he says.
Akon dispels rumors of Jackson being signed to his label or touring with him and expresses his disappointment in the leaks, particularly "Hold My Hand," which was removed from "Freedom" as a result.
"It took all the excitement away. It was a heartbreaking moment for both of us," Akon says. "We wanted it to be special. We wanted it so that when people got my album, it was something that was never heard -- a big surprise. But, the leak stopped those plans."
Akon has been in serious talks with VH1 about a reality show based on him and his brother -- who works for Konvict and bears a striking resemblance to the singer -- but he says that for now, music is his priority.
"As soon as I conquer music, I can relax and focus on other things," he says. "Right now I'm strictly focusing on 'Freedom.'"

Q & A / ALIAUNE THIAM: Atlanta’s Akon comes clean on his criminal record
By SONIA MURRAY
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Tuesday, December 02, 2008Q. Next thing you know, you’re selling millions of records … in the studio with Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Gwen Stefani. Buying million-dollar-plus mansions in Atlanta National. It seems like you’ve gotten through this knock at your “street credibility,” so to speak, unscathed. Except Dec. 1 — the day before “Freedom” — a court date for throwing a teenager off the stage.
A: “And you know, I wish I could talk about that. Clear that up, too. But, the lawyers … What I can say is I think it will be a simple process. I’m confident. I’m confident about everything these days.
“Because you know what’s funny? When I was in and out of jail and decided to go full-speed at this music business thing, I came up with this plan where the top goal was to work with Michael Jackson, and retire in like 2018. Now I’ve already worked with Michael. And it’s looking like retirement might happen earlier.
“I’ll admit I may have said some things in the beginning just to get people to talk to me — just to keep people talking about me. But while I’m doing that talking I’m also promoting whatever I’m working on musically; and in the end, making more money.”

RECORDINGS : Quick Spins
Tuesday, December 2, 2008; Page C05
FREEDOM - Akon"We Don't Care" aims for a different kind of boogie, its sleek disco beat reminiscent of vintage Michael Jackson. And speaking of the gloved one, where is he? A Jackson-Akon duet called "Hold My Hand" leaked onto the Internet over the summer but somehow didn't make the "Freedom" track list. (You can still hear it on YouTube -- it sounds like Bob Marley being shot out of Pachelbel's Canon.)
So with the King of Pop no longer returning his calls, Akon links up with the King of Auto-Tune, T-Pain, for a night on the town. "Holla Holla" finds the duo navigating the club in a prelude to the freaky stuff at which they both claim to excel. Did anyone really expect Akon to go from rags to riches to true love without stopping for some nightclub high jinks along the way?
-- Chris Richards

Ziemlicher Einheisbrei
