    • 1991 - Dangerous
(14 erstmals auf einem Album veröffentlichte Songs)
    • 1995 - HIStory - Past, Present And Future: Book I
(15 erstmals auf einem Album veröffentlichte Songs)
    • 1997 - Blood On On The Dance Floor - HIStory In The Mix
(5 erstmals auf einem Album veröffentlichte Songs)
    • 2001 - Invincible
(16 erstmals auf einem Album veröffentlichte Songs)
    • 2003 - Number Ones
(1 erstmals auf einem Album veröffentlichter Song)
    • 2004 - The Ultimate Collection

    NEW SONY BOSS SHAKES P-ELVIS

BIG BANDIER: Sony Music's new boss, Marty Bandier (above),
approves of the "legendary American" song catalog of Jerry Leiber
    and Mike Stoller.

April 18, 2007 -- Sony/ATV hit a music publishing world home run yesterday with the acquisition of the Jerry Leiber Mike Stoller song catalog, which includes such heavily played hits as "Stand By Me," "Jailhouse Rock" and "Hound Dog."
And though new CEO Martin Bandier, who assumed the reins only last week, didn't have a hand in the deal, he's still delighted to have the catalog of more than 40 Top 40 hits in his portfolio.
"I'm charged with the responsibility of growing the business, and what better way to grow the business than by buying some of the greatest music copyrights in the world," Bandier said in an interview with The Post. "These are some of the most legendary songwriters to come out of the American scene. Listening to their hits is like taking a journey through American rock history."
Bandier may not have been involved in negotiating the deal, but Stoller hinted in a statement that his installment as CEO was an important component to the duo's decision to sell to Sony/ATV, which also counts singer Michael Jackson as a partner.
"I am confident that the team at Sony/ATV will give the necessary focus and attention to our songs, creating fresh and innovative ways to promote our work."
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but two sources familiar with the details pegged the purchase price between $25 million to $45 million.
Bandier declined to comment on the price range.
The Leiber/Stoller songwriting partnership churned out pop standards with Leiber penning the lyrics and Stoller handling the music. The duo has penned hits for the likes of Elvis Presley, The Drifters and Peggy Lee, among others. Their roster of hits includes "Love Potion #9," "Yakety Yak" and "There Goes My Baby."
Yesterday's deal is consistent with the strategy set in motion by Sony Corp. CEO Howard Stringer and CFO Rob Wiesenthal to grow Sony/ATV after the unit was carved out of the SonyBMG merger.
In addition to bringing in Bandier, Sony/ATV last year helped Jackson refinance his 50 percent stake in the unit via a deal that ultimately requires the singer to sell half of his interest back to Sony. The division also signed former "American Idol" contestant Elliott Yamin to a record deal, an unusual step for a publisher.

  • Schade, schade, dass Michael überhaupt 25 % verkaufen musste. :blossnet

  • Launch of new online lyrics service

    25 April 2007

LOS ANGELES: Yahoo Inc. and digital media company Gracenote launched an online lyrics service yesterday, the first industry-backed effort in a market dominated by unauthorised, rogue websites.

Song lyrics are among the top searches performed on the web, but consumers have largely relied on unlicensed sources that often provide inaccurate and incomplete lyrics and do not compensate composers for their work.

The Yahoo deal comes after an agreement between music publishers and Gracenote, giving Gracenote the rights to lyrics from the North American catalogues of Bertelsmann AG's BMG Music Publishing, Vivendi's Universal Music Publishing Group, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, jointly owned by Sony Corp. and Michael Jackson and other publishers.

Terms of the Yahoo deal were not disclosed, but officials said it was a variable revenue-sharing agreement based on advertising.

Gracenote Chief Executive Craig Palmer said licensing lyrics should boost worldwide music publishing revenues, estimated at about $4 billion (R28.4 billion) annually, with the words to songs ultimately providing as much as $100 million (R710 million) in annual revenues in about 10 years as the market expands with new opportunities like online subscriptions and downloads. - Reuters

  • Introducing The Leiber & Stoller Catalog

Sony/ATV has acquired one of the most sought after publishing catalogs, the songs of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.

Leiber and Stoller wrote, arranged and produced some of the most memorable songs in American music, including Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock", " the Drifters' "On Broadway," Wilbert Harrison's "Kansas City" and the Clovers' "Love Potion No. 9." They also wrote most of the major hits by the Coasters, including "Yakety Yak" and "Charlie Brown."

"It was a gift from heaven to arrive and have Leiber and Stoller here, probably two of the most prolific songwriters of all time," says Marty Bandier, Sony / ATV chairman/CEO.

The songwriting duo met in 1950 and soon began working together. Jerry wrote the lyrics and Mike wrote the music. Presley recorded more than 20 of their songs.

Leiber and Stoller have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1987), the Songwriters' Hall of Fame (1985) and the Record Producers' Hall.
